The shielding is not essential. I would store it or throw it away :) I hate this stupid shielding...

Yes, looks like someone tried to fix it years ago, gave up and just threw it in a pile. Quite impressed more wasn't missing. Cap leakage damage is quite standard on these.

Yeah, I have a Japanese Sega Dreamcast that was literally covered in chicken and rat poop which had been rained on and had run through the case.

@@MarkFixesStuff Yeah, and that can be super corrosive. Mouse pee SUCKS as well. I took a page from Perifractics book and have ran a few disassembled machines through a dishwasher a couple times then bleached the dishwash afterwards. YUCK! It works pretty well. I had to rebuild quite a few traces on a couple. Heat shields on the Apple 2GS were wire brushed then primered/sanded and painted with Herculiner in an aerosol can form. They came out quite nice.
