NIGHTMARE [Ranger Theme]

My interpretation of what would be Ranger's (Quake Champions) theme song! I was kind of envisioning how fighting game characters have their tracks that play while I made this. With Ranger originating from Quake 1, I knew it's soundtrack needed a heavy presence in this one. I threw in references to the tracks Quake Theme, Aftermath, Hall of Souls, and Life. Going with the sort of Gothic theme that Q1 had, throwing in a little pipe organ wouldn't hurt either as the Volkerh mapset utilizes it as well.
A good chunk of the Q1 OST is in the key of D, and deviating from that ended up sounding wrong, so in order to get my guitars as low as I wanted them to... I didn't use them. The heavy parts are actually a bass guitar using electric guitar processing. In my mind, this track is my impression of Sonic Mayhem and Mick Gordon interpreting Trent Reznor's classic Quake OST.
Ranger has a tragic story, as he was ripped from his family and tossed into the nightmarish world of Quake from which he can't seem to awaken. I wanted to reflect this in the somber tone of the chorus in this track (and inadvertently ended up giving a subtle nod to the Max Payne theme). Part of me wanted this song to end on a looping fade out to sort of reflect him being trapped in hell.

Most of them already have their own series haha but I agree, those that aren't featured in campaigns should absolutely have their own. I would love a Doom/Wolf style single player Quake reboot, as long as it retains the original Quake 1 style of art design.

if ID would ever want to make Quake a story-mode franchise again (which is unlikely, since Wolfenstein is story oriented franchise at the moment) i would have wanted next Quake chapter to be something that creates link between all previous Quake parts, something that unites continuation of Ranger's story and "Strogg vs. Humankind" story.

@@rikybj0276 well, on the top left there is an icon with book (or piece of paper, I dont remember) and when you click on it, you will see sections of champions, gods and I guess QC lore. If you want to find a Ranger lore, just click on champions sections and choose a character which you want. Not all scrolls are availbe. If you want to collect all scrolls for each champion, you will need to spent lots of gems on.... upgrading (~80 I think)? Except scrolls, you can collect paints, armors.... only cosmetics + lore artifact for each champion (its the same as scroll but with model to see for example: Daisy's foot).

I agree 1000% and would easily pay $60 for the PC version of a Quake reboot as well as another $60 for a Switch port. Replace glory kills with some sort of head shot mechanic, force the player to become more accurate through the campaign and make the game even faster paced. God, I want it. The way they blended the game play with that gloomy world (not even Doom is that dark), it has so much potential. Quake 2? Yeah, that I can see; it was more fast pace and aggressive. Quake 1 was far more darker and otherworldly. Even now I think Reznor's soundtrack stands while Sonic Youth's is a bit dated.

Damn this is really good. Iv been on a id software binge lately, and i would love a new dark fantasy fps/rpg with swords and sorcery so much. Quake is a really wierd but 90's product in terms of setting. Its got that "hooah, guns! Awesome to the max!" and then the obvious Sandy Petersen influence of wanting lovecraftian mystery and grimnes. A shame that they ditched fantasy ideas but i guess it's a taste and markets matter.
