Truly the most disturbing part was the long pause before the trigger was pulled. The top hat man wanted to look that reformed angry man directly in the eyes, and savor the moment. He gave everyone a chance to see what he was about to do. It wasn’t just random murder. It was pleasure for him. And that poor guy. He was just angry and he became truly cute and happy. Him smiling at the top hat man before the gun is pulled almost made me cry. Absolutely fantastic game and perfect representation of modern media and culture.

The scariest part is that the circle in the hat who shot the square was the circle from the beginning. The circle whose photo was captured praising him and influenced others to wear hats. And he shot the square who started off screaming at others. Whose photo was taken to instill fear into others. The one painted in a positive light turned out evil, and the one painted as a maniac changed his ways. The media never really shows us who people truly are, does it?

Strange how everyone's saying how "relevant this is to current culture" considering this sort of attention has been cycled through for years and years. People may not be able to bring it up from memory, I know I can't, but things like the Red Scare and general trends of "be scared, be angry" have been around far longer than we'd like to know. History repeats itself, again and again and again. We're out of new plotlines, we just recycle ones we already did with new characters to call the villains.

@@fern4753 ... I think it was much more general than the BLM movement. Mind Jan 6th. A lot of people were fully up the hole of “man, wild how things were allowed this time with minimal violence.” While some backbit that as if those folks were claiming every protest should be synonymous with riot, the point (that apparently needed to be said, and was) was that escalation doesn’t _help_ any one side, and that those promoting it in _any_ group are... well, basically, the man with the gun, in this. Whatever he got out of it goes unsaid (in real life, because it varies), but... hell, a phrase that’s been going around the past several months (that I’ve seen, for all I know it’s been around way longer) goes “so and so really just woke up today and chose Violence.” As a society, we’ve been holding tight to “story need CONFLICT” with a deathgrip, and keep going for the lowest of hanging fruit.

Actually, they did succeed. The happy square who was shot was the disgruntled, crazed square who started the cycle of paranoia. They got the square to stop being mad and be positive instead. The problem is that the media feels that people don't want to watch a feel good story about people learning to get along. Instead they'd rather keep the cycle of pain going, so in the end nobody is willing to listen to the happy heart hats.

Well, if it's used right it CAN lead to good things... Like the Civil Rights Movement in the 60s. Folks of color were angry and tired of being treated the way they were being treated, but they were never violent with their anger. They just used it to fuel their point and get what they wanted and deserved, equality to whites. But I see your point, a lot of the time anger just leads to violence and that does no one any good.

Ze Filthiest Of Franks honestly. Like, it isn’t just one side even, it’s both sides doing the damage without realizing it. Both sides just hate each other so much and are growing so polarized that the majority of people(non extremists) are being forced to choose a side.
@khub56605 жыл бұрын
Property it doesn’t help that the man the Oval Office is acting as a catalyst for this and the rest of the GOP won’t take a stand against him even as he breaks their core values. Republicans have left the party because of it, some have decided that they don’t want to run for office again because of him and what he stands for. Doesn’t help that the younger members of the Democratic Party want to pull more to the left in response to everything but when they’re citizens and told to go back to their countries you can’t blame them for it. The Dems need to quit these impeachment proceedings (in a perfect world the things he has done are impeachable offenses) because the Republican Party and it’s members are too much of a pussy to oust the man who has caused a constitutional crisis and will continue to do so even if he gets voted out of office. We have a half a Democratic Party that wants to pass policy, another half that wants to go through impeachment hearings, and the whole Republican Party so busy trying to keep him in office they won’t pass any policy (see how they struck down a cyber security bill to protect our voting infrastructure) and a man in the Oval Office tearing the country apart and with it, our reputation across the world and even within our country

@@khub5660 considering that this game is all about how media influences us to think and feel certain ways with selective reporting, I'd say you're a classic example of this exact scenario. If the talking heads say "Orange man bad" enough times, it must be true, right?
@khub56605 жыл бұрын
OneBiasedOpinion if you reread what I said, I’m actually talking about the current political landscape from both points of view with a slight slant towards the left. The Republicans are never going to oust one their own no matter what because then they won’t be unified as a party. It’s sad because if a Democrat did what he and his campaign team did the Republicans would be outraged and calling for their head. Everyone involved in the Trump campaign fell with the exception of Trump because of the fact that it is against Justice Department policy to indict a sitting president, and for good reason. He is our president no matter what until he gets removed from office or voted out. Take this into consideration as well, people like Nunes have been spinning and twisting the events in this country to fit their own narrative as well, so it’s not like either side is innocent of this but when a “(what used to be) respectable and prominent news channel turns into a propaganda channel, that’s an issue and I don’t care which side of the aisle does it, it’s still a problem. This week I was ashamed to call myself an American because of the simple fact that the majority party, the Republicans, said no on protecting what makes a democracy a democracy, our voting institution. And that’s not what a talking head said, that is what happened on Capitol Hill this week even in light of new evidence that showed that other countries have attacked and will attack our voting infrastructure again. Both sides of the aisle are guilty of spinning the narrative to fit them but when it comes down it, the majority party still isn’t doing anything to move this country forward and the minority party can’t pull themselves together to try to force them to focus on policy instead of defending the presidents tweets

This game does an excellent job in portraying this issue, and presents an angle that even people within this comment section fail to see. There are several noting what this says about News Media, but that completely misses the point. Never does it reference media corporations, but rather references us, the people on the internet. Notice that it does not use headlines, but hashtags. Furthermore, as it comes to a close, it shows that this has been us, on our laptop, the entire time. In trying to find something to go viral, we have created a problem that never was there to begin with. We did not even have to say anything, just picked and chose what parts of their world to show them. It must be noted, however, that there is also some responsibility to be placed on the characters in the game for the scenario that arises, as it is them who do or do not view your images. This is precisely what the title of the game says. In responding primarily to inflammatory images, these characters have guided you to set those images. In setting these images, you have guided the characters to live in these images. It is a responsibility carried by all parties to be conscious of what we show and how we show it, as well as what we respond to and how we respond.

This game’s message is absolutely accurate with today’s society, this has been happening for years and years, it keeps going on to this day. This game shows us how anybody can believe anything from the media, nowadays people are so twisted and sick on the mind that they just want action and violence to happen instead of the good and positive thing to happen.”Peace is boring, Violence goes viral” is what this game is stating. People want others to suffer with toxicity, and cruelty and follow along with what other people do. Someone gets a new game, someone else follows, and then everyone else does. Someone likes a song, someone else follows them, and then everyone listens to the song at the very end. People like to follow what other people do as a way to not be left out and to keep up to date. The fact that at the end of the game where people that caused the violence were all killed because of how aggressive and mind controlled they were from the news/media, while the two people (circle and square with heart hats) that wanted peace were left to mourn and witness the death of all of their friends and family. That is why this game and message is called, We become what we behold, we become the things we witness happening around us...

Reasons I stopped watching the news because Im sick of the political bull going on. We are/were perfectly fine many get along...but the media recently they dont give you both sides to the story they give you one side then SHOVE IT DOWN YOUR THROAT. I'm tired of it. Aren't we supposed to have the ability to give our own opinions on the matters at hand? Everyone has different opinions but you dont have to be close minded about them. What's been going on has been purposely dividing people apart more then uniting them together. I'm just... tired of it...
@spoons45453 жыл бұрын
@@rainbowocean5075 The world seems more polarized than before because the stakes are higher than ever before. We are dealing with more potentially species-ending threats than we ever have in our existence; are we to merely sit back and not be angry with the people who repeatedly deny the truths of these things? The problem isn't the anger and the hatred. The problem is the root cause: The greed of those in power, and the ignorance of those they seduce. Polarization is simply a symptom of those root causes. To say, "Why can't we all just get along?" is to ignore the very real issues people fight for: LGBTQ+ rights, global warming, poverty, and more. People argue about these things because they are important, and compromise is what got us into this mess in the first place. To ignore politics is to ignore your responsibility as a human being and a citizen. As the saying goes, "We live in a society." There are news outlets that are less biased than the mainstream CNN, Fox, etc. Outlets like the AP, Reuters, and BBC are all excellent sources of information. Do not shirk your civic duty because you fear polarization. Humanity is at a fork in the road, and at least one of the roads ends in certain doom. Do not regret not taking a side.

I completely agree. The hard part about this game is that it points out a truth and the people that wish to do good in the world, the protesters of love, are ignored and can only witness the destruction. And like the camera told the player, "peace is boring" to the media. We need to come up with some kind of solution, as Mark says at the end. If we could somehow make the media and audiences cheer for the positive stuff that happens rather than glorify the terrible acts, then we could create a happier environment.

Not all politicians and corporations can be bad people. There has to be some that believe the same thing and want the best for everyone, but somehow feel limited or powerless. Maybe it symbolizes how the big stuff and the stupefying stuff kind of comes out of nowhere. Think about it: before someone shoots up a school, no one knows who you are, and no one cares. Then, as soon as you commit the heinous act, every good deed you have ever accomplished up to that point fades away. Even in the game, the "posh" circle just started a trend, but chances are, no one will remember that because he shot someone. That's my first theory. My second theory is that the "posh" circle symbolizes the sweet kid from down the street that always had the best grades and a good personality and was the last person you'd expect to do something like that.
@zombieheart89788 жыл бұрын
Perhaps because he was the only one who realized where the problem originated? The happy square guy he killed was the angry square that started the hatred cycle in the beginning. The square guy became happy after he talked to the happy couple but he was still the origin of the hatred. He clearly changed as a person but the negative things he did in his past still had a huge negative impact on the people that surrounded him which eventually spread to even more people. Perhaps the "calm guy" is representative of people with warped logic. A smart individual that knows all the information about the situation but had a very twisted/biased view which caused them to to develop narrow minded solutions that only made the situation worse (aka killing a reformed individual for their past mistake). The "posh" look was probably to make the character stick out and showcase him as an intellectual (or a person that views themselves as intellectual anyways). "Smart" people have seriously suggested -and literally done- mass bombings or killings in the past (and present actually) to resolve issues just as meaningless as the one in the game - being a circle versus a square.
@WowItsErin8 жыл бұрын
I think it's because the other shapes didn't do what they did because of hate; they did what they did because they were angry. They did what they did because they were afraid. The posh circle, likely a rich individual in this shape community, could afford to kill a shape not out of necessity, but out of pure unbridled HATRED.

Neat detail about this game, when a person is killed, they don’t just blow up into generic chunks, you can see the body is actually blurred, something modern media does all the time with bodies nowadays.

I doubt he was being serious. I'm pretty sure he's playing the role of the media and how they seem to spin things a lot. "It's not the fault of the rich man with everything he could possibly want who killed people and sparked lots of violence and death, it's the fault of the random guy who might not be completely alright in the head who actually loves people and doesn't want to hurt them and was just having a bad day!"

Alolamao this happened in the 90’s when blacks were being murdered by whites because blacks were deemed dangerous and not one of ‘them’ so out of fear white people would make blacks less than what they were and would also murder them.
