Most other Chevrolets use the same transmission and they were all recalled except the Equinox. I just finished repairing my daughter's 2015 Equinox bushing. Got it locally at Autozone. I will be sending a note y=to NHTSA to request a recall. Hers failed during a moderate rainstorm last weekend 50 miles from home. This is a safety problem.

Hey, Mark: Many thanks for your "how to replace the windshield wiper transmission" video. I'm a 66 year old woman, and was able to fix my 2012 Equinox myself. I had a bit of trouble removing the wiper arms because I'm not very tall (5' 3") and couldn't grip them securely enough.....so, I had to use a safety step stool to give me a boost, and, Man, I sure did have to jiggle them a lot before they came loose. I applied some 3-in-1 oil to help. I think it did. It's a challenge for shorter people to reach across the hood. (It's worth mentioning for any other "vertically challenged" person. C; ) It is imperative that the wiper arms are in the park position before reassembling. Your recommendation in the hyperlink made it so easy to order the part from Amazon. Perfect fit. Thanks again, and Happy wrenching!

I’ve just finished replacing the wiper transmission on my 2010 Chevy Equinox with this video as a guide. Just wanted to add that the extra plastic shielding is very likely just a disposable piece that comes with a new unit. I removed it as there are just two staples holding it in place. man you just made me look like a hero! :) wife said wipers aren't working. she said "I can tell they are trying to but they aren't moving" after watching your video and seeing how the mechanism works and your explanation I knew right off the drive arm detached at the bushing. I snapped it back on for now but they work anyway... we'll see for how long... but thanks man, the weather here demands working wipers (like most places) and at least until I need to order parts I can limp it along. This kept me from buying a new relay and wiper motor fuse only to find out it was this mechanical problem, not an electrical problem. It was easy to diagnose with the wipers just being pulled back and forth by hand without resistance. I bought the GM version because it came with the motor and I was concerned about my original motor may not fit the aftermarket transmission precisely. Thanks a lot.

This type of failure has no indicator that could offer the driver of it's impending demise, thus creating the potential of a dire situation. It would be like being blinded as a tractor trailer passes and not being able to clear the windshield.

I just did this today, the wiper actuator link had previously popped off where it meets the motor. Issue is, it's a side job and i never saw how the wipers function before hand. I noticed the wipers go down before going up and didn't know if that was normal. I ended up clocking the wiper arms up a lil so they weren't hitting the cowl. Just wanna know if that's normal on these?

My equinox has an issue where the drivers side wiper doesn't wipe for the full cycle when turned on and then it doesn't return to the full rest position when turned off. Could this be a linkage/transmission problem? The passenger side works fine.
@smartin2814 жыл бұрын
I figured it out. Previous owner said it started happening after he turned the wipers on while frozen to the windshield. It wasn’t apparent at first glance, but I removed the wiper motor/transmission a second time and noticed that the bracket connecting the motor to the transmission was bent. Replaced with a part from the salvage yard and it works fine now.

I just replaced the transmission in my 2010 Chevy equinox with a dorman transmission, but when I put the arms back on and I did the process of letting it go back in the park position put the arms on and tighten them down. Both arms go up but the driver side doesn’t go all the way across the windshield. So i put it back in the park position again and loosen the bolt and push the arm up a little bit and that still did nothing. Also when I does go back down it almost seems like they smack off the plastic dash that they rest on. Any ideas on what could cause this because i feel stupid
@briandemarest62224 жыл бұрын
This is from the transmission attachment point to the motor. They're misaligned. Did you use the old motor? Either way, you have to deinstall and use a 14MM crescent wrench to loosen the transmission arm from the motor. RUN THE MOTOR WITH THE CAR TO ENSURE IT'S AT IT'S PROPER STARTING POINT. Reattach with the motor arm aligned parallel with the arms that attach one wiper to the other. Be sure when reattaching, you wedge something to keep the motor from turning. Run the wipers without the wiper arm on. It should go up an down and nothing else. Stop them with the wiper control, NOT by turning the car off. When you reinstall the wiper arm, don't move the attachment point because that moves the motor and will misalign the arm.
