Mark Knopfler still astonishes me with his perfect productions - despite modern times, he and the band sound almost exactly like it was all 1977, the same climate, the same feeing they''re playing this song just for you and your friends, not for anybody else. that is called timeless music. a week ago i heard this song for the first time and fell in love with it immediately.

It's the space. There's space for each instrument to be heard and to breathe. It's not a constant barrage. You can contemplate. Similarly, the albums back in those days had an appreciable gap between tracks. A silence for you to digest and in which to cleanse your aural palate before the next track started. Now music production is like being fucked by a 17-year-old bogan. All frenzied attack with no dynamic or nuance. And then it's over. And straight into the next assault.

Mark Knopfler is really in a league of his own isn't he? He's got a guitar tone so distinct, like Clapton or Gilmour. You know it's Mark from the first note. Listened to this track over and over again whilst traversing through thick jungle canopies on one side and the precipitous cliff on the other plunging onto a raging river below in the 80's through the Wild West of Asia. It was a hellhole of bandits, guerrillas, paramilitary, the military, loony deserters reminiscent of colonel Kurtz, Maoist rebels and secessionist groups fighting the government supported by the U.S. It was dangerous, it was unforgettable and this song brings me back to those days. Mark knopler has captured the surrealism of those times with this song. He's a genius.

Truely "spooky" song . Added with Brothers in Arms, it hits among vets from back in the day. Salute/Toast/Brost to my Brothers in Arms. I am drinking the best Margarita in the land right now.

1986 No.1 ALBUM: Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms After all the miscellaneous greatest hits albums that marked quite a few of my birthdays in the deep dark Seventies, the Eighties were now making up for that with some truly iconic releases which last even up to now. I had ‘Brothers In Arms’ on cassette which meant it was one of those albums which was in my Walkman while cycling around on my black and gold Raieigh Burner. This was a good move as, if I’d had the vinyl edition then half the tracks would have been hacked to pieces to make them fit on that format. The CD age was dawning and this was one way they could bolster the sales of this new magical sorcery. At this point, CD players would have cost this arm and that leg. I would have to wait a few more years before I got the chance to own one. So I got the full versions without the expense, even though half of side 2 was blank so had to constantly fast forward to the end before flipping it back over. The album itself was musically immense, and even though the big hits got a bit tiresome due to constantly being rammed through the radio speakers on the airwaves, the other tracks made up for it. #mymusicalroadto50

Means so many things to different people. My personal opinion is it takes me in a journey that has relevance through my life, see another meaning, a hard time through family bereavement but this song brings me closer to that person in particular and through life's struggles as a child! As an adult I listen to this song and it takes me back to those hard times and reminds me what strength this song brought. On a music level it's fantastic in many ways, through certain emotion in the voice of Mark to the instrumentals. I hope this song makes people feel a peace like I have however appreciate we are all different but as long as it's peace and not hateful then free speech, feeling and thought to all men women and children. Sorry for the essay lol
