I grew up in Eunice, LA. Bought my first guitar from Savoy's music store. The Saturday morning jam sessions were legendary and the would go for hours. Mark Savoy (the dad) makes those accordions and is world renown for bringing our music to the rest of the world. This is how it sounds and there are many family get gatherings that sound something like this (most of us aren't this good). Enjoy!

J'ai été élevé dans le sud-ouest du Texas, tout près de la Louisiane, il y a 70 ans. Quand j'étais petite, j'entendais beaucoup de musique acadienne. C'est bon d'en savoir plus. Et je suis américain.

+Ray Hummel The woman playing the guitar is Ann Doucet. She came here from Virginia years ago and could not make herself leave. She married Doucet and learned to play Cajun music and speak Cajun French. She is one of us now.

+roger leger Just a correction. The guitar player is Ann Savoy (not Doucet). She married Marc Savoy.

The Savoy family are some awesome cajun musicians. Every time i hear this song for some reason, it puts a smile on my face. And you would have to nail your foot to the flor to keep it from tappin to this song

Acadiana is my favorite part of the country - if not the universe! I always come back to it for the music, the food, and the people. It's become a cliche to use the term "down to earth" to describe people but that applies to Cajuns best of all. There is nothing pretentious about the Cajuns. They don't put on any airs. And they can party better than anybody else!!! Laissez le bon temps rouler!!!!

Yes, I've seen Dennis Stroughmatt perform. He's terrific; he plays each yr at the Fete de l'Automne near Old Mines, MO, where my grandmother was from and where he learned to play his Creole (not Cajun) music. The Library of Congress recently posted a concert by Dennis too. The concert was interesting to me because of all of the family names of the musicians he mentioned are familiar to me. They're probably my distant cousins through my grandmother. --Dennis plays my family's music! :-)
