Translation for all the non-Finns: I feel and hear your voice, it echoes to eternity. You were broken, but I'll remember longer. Though a man's might is broken, the dust fills the vessel. Tonight as well I know you're singing me to sleep. My father's voice. I sing with it as well. My father's voice. Sing my son, you too. My father's voice. From the fathers ancient. My father's voice. I will remember it. And I know even if the gates of heaven were closed before you, here you were known as a man of justice. On my behalf, you can break down those gates just for fun.. Your goodness can't be chained by the letters of law. My father's voice. I sing with it as well. My father's voice. Sing my son, you too. My father's voice. From the fathers ancient. My father's voice. I will remember it. Although they claimed our flesh is earth. It's the ashes of stars, burning through the ages. The life and blood bound to it Fills the veins with song, with song. My father's voice. I sing with it as well. My father's voice. Sing my son, you too. My father's voice. From the fathers ancient. My father's voice. I will remember it. My father's voice. I sing with it as well. My father's voice. Sing my son, you too. My father's voice. From the fathers ancient. My father's voice. I will remember it.

Finnish languange is phonetic, meaning every letter is pronounced as is. There aren't many such languange, Japanese is one that comes to mind. English for example is NOT a phonetic languange. The letter 'Ä' is pronounced a bit like the letter 'A' in the word "And" in english. For comparison in the word "Ahead" the 'A' is pronounced more like 'A' is pronounced in finnish. Not sure if this helps, or not. Also, reaction to Tuomas Holopainen's solo project? Times and Life of Scrooge?

Finnish melancholy is ever pervasive, especially in music. You can hear it in Hector's "Lumi Teki Enkelin Eteiseen" and even in Sibelius' symphonies. There's always something dark and brooding deep beneath it all, which was PERFECTLY summed by Eppu Normaali, and I quote; "Tämä tuhansien murheellisten laulujen maa, joka tuhansiin järviin, juosta saa." "This land of thousands of sorrowful songs, which ought to drown in thousands of lakes." But truly, I've yet to hear anything quite so deep and touching, as melancholic as it i as Hector's Lumi Teki Enkelin Eteiseen, there's something magical about it in my mind.
@Caldera015 жыл бұрын
Lyrics to "Lumi Teki Enkelin Eteiseen" in english. Just the mere lyrics gets me to tear up, let alone the song itself. "Snow Made an Angel in the Hallway" The girl saw from the bridge how black the water was somewhere down below mother asked why does she write poems the child must be wrong in the head The girl cried for a moment and looked behind her the sigh of the city rang wild how could one feel like this land is their own the water was black as time And the water was black mother wore her black clothes and the priest was given coffee to drink and father was drunk, how else someone carried flowers to the hallway Others go to moon and others to Sweden some just have smaller salaries father went to Sweden 5 years ago mother was already unhappy then I put a cardboard cover on the window so at least someplace would be warm they sang "praise the Lord" on the radio on Sunday mother passed away And father went to Sweden mother flew to Heaven and the priest was given coffee to drink again and brother was drunk I saw he had cried snow made an angel in the hallway x2

The "target practice" dots are because the finnish alphabet has two more letters than the english one, Å and Ä, hard to explain in writing how they are pronounced, but the Å i guess you could say is pronounced kinda like the letter O in the english word "fond" (as in 'I am fond of...') and the Ä is pronounced pretty much like you pronounce the A in the english word "and"! The swedish alphabet also has these two letters and also annother one that you dont have in the english alphabet, Ö, which is pronounced a bit like the "U" in the english word "turn" I know it all sounds wierd to you but hopefully this will help you in the future if you react to any other songs titled in finnish or swedish!
@topiraatikainen74505 жыл бұрын

Finnish does not use å, but does have ä, ö. Also it does not use b, c, q, w, x, z. So finnish actually has very few letters. Oh, and ng is stand in for a sound that does not have its own letter in use.

(Late Late Night) 8 Dec 2019, Retrospective Reaction #273... Damn, the song title is a _brutal_ challenge to non-Finns - lots of _umlauts_ (two dots " ¨ " placed over a letter)... One has to keep in mind, that in Finnish, they are *not* _diacritics_ (a glyph such as _accent,_ _dot,_ or _curve_ added to a letter to change the sound-values of the letter, *or,* when used as _diaeresis_ mark, to show that the vowel with the " ¨ " is pronounced separately from the preceding vowel, like in the word "naïve", ... *or* some glyph even more "weird-looking"), but mark an entirely _different_ letter which _always_ corresponds to an entire different phoneme. In Finnish, 'a' and 'ä' are two diffrent letters/phonemes, and so are 'o' and 'ö' - but enough of that, I want to click "play" and see your reaction, as this is completely different from both *Nightwish* and *Tarot* (Marco's first band)!
