In this video we check out the dangerous and beautiful Devil's Churn. It is right between Thor's Well and Yachats on the Central Oregon Coast. This is a chasm that slowly erodes away as waves enter and exit. It is a very dangerous landmark, like much of the Oregon coast can be. Caution is advised at all times due to the unpredictable ocean. Footage was taken during a couple different visits, the stormy and foamy footage is from the king tide in November.

Nice work as always Matt. Have been here many times over the decades...a truly awesome place to behold the power of the Pacific. It used to be that at certain tide levels, the surf rushing into the deep end of the cave would create a pretty significant boom that would resonate out and through the ground. It's been many years since I've last visited and maybe erosion has changed that effect. Thanks for repeatedly emphasizing the dangers. My neighbors lost their teenage son to the Pacific when a wave swept him off some rocks just a little ways north from here. The perils of the Oregon coast can never be taken lightly.

Thank you! Wishing I caught that deep noise, I hear it a lot at Thor's Well but didn't notice it here. Sorry to hear that someone was lost. The ocean is nothing to mess around with. The eye candy deceives is and gives a peaceful feeling.

Whenever you see water foaming up like that your chances of drowning if you end up in it are extremely high. Places like this usually have a washing machine type effect going on too where you'll just get sucked under and go around in circles.

I'd bring 9mm static with carabiners, straight-8 descender, hip harness, jumar ascenders, jungle boots (to vent water if wading), rappel gloves, caving helmet w/ fixed headlamp. All to enter/escape inland cave at a minus low tide. Which would yet hazard any rogue wave entry. Which I'd do naked except for the aforementioned on a warm summer evening. Because I'm a senior citizen who could. If reader cannot it isn't my problem.
