I can imagine how it feels. I crashed my custom build this past weekend. The build videos of the GEEBEE was a joy to watch. I hope to see her in the sky again soon.

All the observations made before + a gyro system. (AR Smoothflite , Cortex or Powerbox) . Good luck for the next flights!

It seems to have survived with no major damage so definitely restore. It’s a racing design so resist the temptation to slow down when it’s flying erratically. I think the suggestion of fitting a gyro is very sound and will assist in taming such a squirrelly aircraft so you don’t get overwhelmed. I’m no longer an RC flyer but I like the idea of a ballistic parachute to deploy if all else fails 🪂 I love your workshop and workmanship. Back in the 80s I’d have never dreamed of what would be possible in the 2020s. Thanks for sharing your passion 👍🇦🇺

Blown away by how well the printed/glassed fus survived, confirmed the future of building rc planes. Maybe a little throttle to rudder mix to help tame the beast next flight? It's always going to be a wild ride I'm sure. 🙂

Thing to remember do not fly slow. it will stall & spin in the blink of an eye, if you can recover it will often spin the other way. Do not focus on recovery, focus on flying it in a suitable manner to avoid stall spins. good luck, it is a super model and should be rebuilt. Fit a Gyro Note there is a very small Rudder area, that is easily blanked in a spin. DO NOT STALL OR SPIN

I think adding a CF based reinforcement on the fuse would help a lot with strudiness. And adding a Gyro would also be advisable - I always add them to my larger models !

Of course restore. If the crash was a tip stall simply lift both aileron up about 3mm and try again

A fully working scale Spitfire with flap indicators on the top of the wing. Scale gear that actuates in a way that would suggest some poor guy is cranking on a handle in the cockpit. Large scale too, maybe two meter span.

Yes restore, I want to see the bird fly again. Just a quick note,you can rock the prop on the crank left and right before compression that will also prime the carb, that's what I do anyway 👌

This needs to be rebuilt everything else would be a waste. I would personally make the gear fairings smaller. It will shift center of sideways pressure rearward and make it more stable I think. Other than that just fly faster :D. Good Luck Marko!

You are amazing. I love what you produce. Keep it going! My thought on the crash.......I believe you stalled . Not enough rudder surface. Look at washout.

When looking at the video slowly, before the plane goes down, you were flying nose up then turning left, and it seems she stalled.

In my opinion it mostly was the center of gravity that was too much behind that led to the crash. Most parts of the plane are in good shape. So rebuild it and keep in mind that the geometry with its slightly negative sweep of the wings needs a center of gravity more ahead than expected. In my early days in the 199ies my first aileron-steered glider with slightly negative sweep showed similiar behaviour like your GeeBee when she crashed until I changed the CG way more ahead.

I would definitely restore it but I would try a few different wing shapes as the to see if that was the problem...... I have a beegee and its a bugger to fly... I have to fly it fast as it tends to stall very easily...... just dont give up as you have made a beautiful plane which deserves more than 1 chance..... greetings from down under

Only needs a bigger vertical stabilizer I think, looks like a high speed stall followed by a non- recoverable spin, maybe a bigger stabilising surface would prevent such an aggressive spin allowing more time to recover in case of a similar stall?

Remember, the GeeBee R3 was never a real airplane. But only designer work. And the different shapes of this plane are not the best for having a healthy flight. Much less than the GeeBee Z or R2

I'm very glad that the plane is generally fine. The engine looks perfect! As for the restoration, of course, a plane like this can't be allowed to go to waste. I wrote you a comment with some suggestions on the previous video about the instabilities caused by having a vertical surface that moves the center of yaw forces ahead of the center of gravity, I hope they are useful. Best regards!

Your CG need to be more forward ... Adding transparent plastic VORTEX GENERATORS on the wing tips...And 20 to 30% ''ailerons up'' at low speed and approche for landing...Always happy to follow You.
@knowledgebyte
@knowledgebyte 5 ай бұрын
I think you need to look at retracts to clean up the wing and maybe look at the wing section and chord. Like someone has said, this is a design concept, it was never meant to be airworthy and an easy flyer as these types of planes need power on, maintain a higher airspeed at all times. If you slow them up, lean back on the stick, get a side gust, the drag moving over the overly large undercarriage will lead to one wing stalling. Put this model through a virtual wind tunnel and see how it models. I suspect it just isn’t a good flyer in its current form.

What kind of material fuselage is made for? And what about the receiver table material and antennas position, distance between CDI, etc? Which radio system?
@markoroolaid
@markoroolaid 5 ай бұрын
Hi, you have quite a lot of questions, the answers are here: 1. The fuselage is made by 3D printing (LW PLA) and reinforced with fiberglass 2. Receiver base made of plywood and vibration reliefs made of 3D printed TPU 3. Antennas at 90 degrees and outside the fuselage 4. The distance of the receiver from the CDI is about 600mm 5.Futaba T18SZ transmitter and Futaba R7114SB receiver

@@markoroolaid I was worried that there was some carbon part in the fuselage that could interfere with radio modulation. But everything you used is of superior quality and the distance between the parts is safe. Strange what happened... And the antennas are uncovered... Particularly good. After the accident, have you tested the operation of the radio system, with the engine running?

Please, absolutely fix it! ... We look forward to a great video! 1. Lead a little to the front 2. one Flight-phase with all deflections reduced by 50% +30% expo .... then it runs like on rails! 3. Gyro on the rudder (helps against motor-side-pull) Have fun with this wonderful model!

Love your builds. Restore it. Doesn’t look like much work to do so. The Geebee R3 needs a lot of rudder work by the pilot, and unfortunately this was lacking in your first flight. It was very out of trim with the rudder and no corrections were made to correct it during the flight. This is also made worse by a big motor with lots of torque making the torque and large rotational airmass down the fuselage, yawning the airplane hard to the left. I’ve flown models with big Moki engines, and they need lots of pilot input on the rudder, especially at slower speeds. I would find a smaller diameter, larger pitch prop to reduce the torque and make smaller the rotational airmass going down the fuselage, and at the same time increase the pitch speed which will help get the flying speed up and increase velocity of airflow over the rudder making the airplane more directionally stable and helping keep it away from the stall. The prop you have has too much static thrust and not enough pitch speed. Just to note, I have flown a geebee r3 and r2 and they need more input from the pilot than most planes. You could also get yourself a 3D foamy to fly around that beautiful backyard and gain more rudder skills 😊

For reference, here’s me flying a CARF P47 with Moki 250 radial. It requires full right rudder on takeoff and I am still half right rudder on climb out kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5yql5VsZsmZj80si=9vM2S5Wk4COHAwgR

I don't know, I am no expert but I was immediately wondering about a plane with so little verttical stabilization. Maybe this contributes to yaw instability which can cause a wing to drop at low speeds since at low speed, changes in power setting could cause the craft to yaw and if you are already near stall then the yaw can cause the retreating wing to stall and boom, not recoverable.

Make a little more weight in the front for the first time and make the shoes smaler!!!!! The big shoes brakes and greatly influences the rudder effect, so the tail wants to overtake. We have the same Problems with a 1:2 geebee. Now it flys very well.

when I watch the GeeBee fall I have the impression that the elevator is no longer responding. elevator control broken? elevator servo fixing broken? elevator control system blocked by another part? in any case, the little damage compared to the violence of the crash demonstrates the solidity of the design and the interest in building light. it would be a shame not to repair this plane. good luck to you.

i'm not sure anymore if you mentioned an thrust angle in the build videos, judging by the flight video i'd say it wasn't enough... the airfoil looks very blunt at the leading edge in the videos, but I can't really tell. A more pointed leading edge would perhaps provide better stall behaviour. Of course, you will then have to make other small compromises... But im sure you know what your doing :) I would find a rebuild very interesting ;)
