Sitting in a parking lot just feeling this song. Holidays are rough for me like many people. I read a few comments about people being alone in this world, and I'm one of them. I have a mother and a brother with his own family, but I won't be invited to the family gatherings, etc. I am divorced from what was an abusive marriage , no living children (my infant died years ago). I always accepted the crumbs of attention that they gave me my entire life and tolerated all sorts of abuse, and when I finally get the courage to set my boundaries, and respect myself so that I could heal; they all turned from me; and just recently found out that they've been lying to others about why I'm not invited to family gatherings. I guess so that they don't look bad, I'm the scapegoat. I've heard of that, but now I am experiencing it. I've received worse treatment from them and others so it doesn't surprise me. I have my faith, so that keeps me in check, but I'm only human and the lyrics of this song just hit different in my case, because that's all you can do sometimes, is just smile. Please be kind to each other because you truly don't know what they are dealing with and it's become such a cold world.

Lol, I just said to my Mamma I wrote the story on KZbin and she was kind of angry I didn't tell the whole story. Okay so I must add one detail. This American guy finally decided to live in Glasgow (Scotland) because he felt welcomed and home. I know this because afterwards, he told my aunt he had moved to Glasgow with his wife & children and would always say hello to her. The point of this story is that we are all human beings even you're yellow, green, red, brown, pink (love that colour) and we all have a heart ❤, lungs... I mean, IT'S JUST A SKiN COLOUR!!!!! Peace✌, Love and Happiness to everybody!!!

I just love this song. It helped get me out of a bad depression today. Charlie Chaplin certainly wrote a beautiful song and Nat King Cole sings it so wonderfully!

Chaplin wrote the music in 1936. The text was added in 1954 by the British songwriters John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons 👍

I just recently learned that Mr. Chaplin wrote this. I was speechless. I have always loved Judy Garlands version. But I have new appreciation for Nat King Cole's. It's an amazing song that oddly enough in it's understatement to ask the listener to smile, can just as likely elicit tears of joy 😊

What's even more magical is that there is no time, it's a human construction of the mind (imagination) thinking is not Reality , Reality is prior to thinking/math/sciences/explanations/all human beliefs You don't have to believe me, just realize this for yourself by practicing meditation (silencing the mind) you'll discover that you are not the thoughts or even human, but something much much bigger & real

Smile though your heart is aching Smile even though it's breaking When there are clouds in the sky you'll get by If you smile through your fear and sorrow Smile and maybe tomorrow You'll see the sun come shining through For you Light up your face with gladness Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear maybe ever so near That's the time you must keep on trying Smile- what's the use of crying You'll find that life is still worth while If you just smile Oh that's the time you must keep on trying Smile what's the use of crying You'll find that life is still worth while If you just smile

81 years old alone. I love you . I hope I live to be your age. Music will never make you feel alone. Think of music as your friend. It is always there to give you pleasure, give you memories no one else knows. Music gives you your past with fond memories. It reminds you of your life and all those who were there. You never forget your past because you live now in the present and songs from before are a gift to you. Because you remember. Music is eternal, throughout time as long as those who love music and never forget music will always be around, never forgotten and , you , my dear, are exemplifies life. GOD BLESS YOU. And always keep that smile. Marion Hunter

My dad's name is Mark and my little brother's Parker. Lost both of them in 2021. I just smiled so big and cried thinking of them. My dad always told me I would light up a room with my smile and my little brother was my best friend and there wasn't a minute that went by when we hung out we weren't smiling.

What a gorgeous voice! It tugs at my heart, even now. Nat smoked a lot and unfortunately ended up with lung cancer at a relatively young age. He died in the late '50s or early '60s. I can still see the television message he recorded for the youths of that time, encouraging them not to smoke, because of what happened to him. He was dying at that time, and to offer such advice at a time like that, in the dreadful condition he was in, was truly heroic. An American hero. RIP Nat.

It's a genius song, performed by , for me anyway the greatest ever singer of love songs/romantic ballads. What makes his voice and interpretations of classic songs even better though, are the peerless Nelson Riddle and Gordon Jenkins orchestral arrangements. They add immensely to their majesty. So many young people today don't get exposed to what id call classic tunes of a bygone age. It would enrich their lives so much on hearing them I'm quite sure
