I played poker with my cannas last year, left half of them outside, they all died. (Germany near Berlin). So maybe you want to consider to at least move half of them indoors. Good luck!

Another beautiful exotic plant I use in my border is Arum Cornutum, also growing from bulbs. AND hardy!

Hi. What area of your garden do you plant your pink china? I have just put some in different areas to see which grows best. I plan on mulching them with woodchip in winter, as I'm in Liverpool. Cheers

I am planning to start vegetable garden. If I keep banana plant, will height of banana plant stop the sunlight to reach other vegetable plants which I am sowing.

I suppose it depends how big and tall it gets. I suspect it will be fine. Keep feeding and watering the veg and i feel they will live happily together. Mark

Nice collection of plants but your bed isn't wide enough, there smashed up against the wall and there not fully mature yet!

That's a reasonable observation, but it is deliberate. I want it jam packed to the gunnels. A dense wall of foliage. It should achieve that over the next couple of months after which autumn will arrive and i will be removing several plant for storage. I'll post an update video when the border reaches its peak and is bursting at the seams.

The flowers of that crinum look like brugmansia, (angels' trumpets), they're lovely🙂 I've got a crinum but it hasn't flowered yet and I was told it was UK hardy. Is that right?

Ours have stayed outdoors in pots inna sheltered position and have fared well. We've had them through 2 winters. This is their first season in the ground. I will be mulching heavily, it will be interesting to see how they cope.

My musa lasiocarpa are hardy, they've been growing outside, and really multiplying big time, for years. The first one I planted produced 17 pups after only one year and then about the same again the next year. That original plant still hasn't flowered and is still producing loads of offsets every year. They're as tough as old boots!

Thank you for all this really useful information. I hope mine pups! If i get 17 I'll be setting up a shop. What did you do with your 'offspring' and where in the country are you? Up north or down south? Thanks again. Mark

I've got fennel growing all over my garden like a weed. It grows to over 8 feet tall, in the right place, but if you leave leave it to grow too long, you'll have hell of a job to dig it up. It's normally the root that's used for culinary purposes but don't leave it growing too long! You'll need a JCB to dig it out!
@MarksHouseandGardenUK

Thank you for this. I think then i will put. It in pots or raised beds, remove large ones periodically and replace them with smaller. I'd read that the root is edible but also the the fine filaments of leaves can be used in salad and as a flavouring.

Hi Angie, nice to hear from you again, it's doing really well isn't it? And i think it still has 2 more good months of growth this year. The banana is a beauty. We had 2 of those but sadly one didn't come back after winter. We've replaced it with three little ones. I'll have some digging up to do come autumn! Lol

Hi Mark, great tour. Can I ask how often you water the banana’s and Gingers please? I was doing daily but read I shouldn’t be. I’m now torn if I should leave it to 3 times a week or daily? Thanks in advance.
@MarksHouseandGardenUK
@MarksHouseandGardenUK 2 жыл бұрын
It's weather dependent of course but in the heatwave daily, during wetter times every 2 or 3 days. Are yours showing and signs or symptoms of distress at all?

@@MarksHouseandGardenUK thanks for replying. No my bananas look ok to be honest, not super fast growers but they are all in pots at present (bar my Musa Basjo which are in the ground). My gingers though have hardly grown and the leaves are curling down which I’ve read can be too much or too little water so I’m not sure which, there is new growth at the bottom so they are alive at least. I have had a white powdery substance on them too which I’ve no idea what it is, it just wipes off.
@MarksHouseandGardenUK
@MarksHouseandGardenUK 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevefindlater302 whenever i hear 'white powdery' i always think of mildew. Which i associate with damp. Perhaps you could withhold water for a brief period. Or water less regularly. Also, i might use a fork to gently aerate around the roots, gently without too much disturbance. I was reminded recently that many plants need oxygen at their roots.
