Truthfully! Every encounter had a teammate doing work. Ogryn peel, psyker bubble and flame. Oh, and Choco being absolutely cracked as usual. Incredible gun play and teamwork! It really all was a treat. CC, tank, and DPS living in perfect harmony! Ave Imperator!

I used to play a lot of bolt vet at launch, it was one of the best weapon. I think it suffered a lot from the disappearing of the instant reload ability after the skill tree rework, I hope one day it will come back

I just realized that the reason that the bolter has a draw animation of a full sized Buick Sedan is that it's supposed to be used on a Veteran as a long range tool. Makes sense, but that's definitely more of a reason to not run it on a Zealot.

Im not sure if the bolter benefits much from marksman. I dont use it much, but i do know for a fact that weapons with extremely high damage that has low breakpoints (revolver for example) dont get much out of it, as it doesnt give new breakpoints anyway. Headhunter mk9 (whichever is the semi one) in my experience is nuts because not only are you already 1 shotting all chaffs with the right perks, with max stacks (10?) you are able delete pretty much all specials even without the proper modifiers (all maniacs, gunners and shotgunners for example die at max stacks) - this is an example of the perfect weapon to use with marksman. Unfortunately because stacks only build on headshot kills stuff like the HH mk 3 is kind of hard to make use for it because its harder to miss the head for the kill. Basically marksman focus has an issue of weapons with high damage dont benefit much (outside of reload speed) and those with poopoo damage dont get much out of it cuz its hard to build stacks.

marksman's focus specifically benefits lower damage faster firing weapons more. You get extra stacks for every headshot you make so if you can hit multiple headshots without killing them, you can easily build lots of stacks off a single enemy. It's very easy to maintain max stacks with columnus infantry and accatran recon lasgun because you can shoot someone 3-4 times in the head, and every shot gives you stacks. Against gunners, for example, I typically build 3-4 stacks off just shooting the head normally and then another 3 stacks from killing them with the final headshot. I can get 10 stacks off a rager with the recon lasgun. It makes getting to max stacks and staying at max stacks very simple and easy. I do think the bolter gets an insane amount of value from marksman's focus as well, for one specific reason - reload speed. Reloading the bolter is one of the biggest downsides of the weapon because it takes forever and a half. With one or two reload speed talents and decent stacks in marksman's focus, the bolter reload gets a lot faster (as chocoB shows) and one of the biggest downsides of the weapon is no longer a problem. Just gotta hit those headshots. The big problem with marksman's focus is that the stacks disappear quickly once you are forced into melee and if your teammates aren't paying extra attention to babysitting you, you'll have to swap to melee quite frequently in auric. Choco has some good teammates who are taking most of the melee pressure off him but in my experience, most people in auric don't watch your back, you are expected to handle your own shit and let them handle their own shit. In most auric games, zealots and melee build ogryn will typically dive into large packs of enemies and leave you alone to handle any horde that gets past them or spawns in the back, meaning you have to swap to melee every 3 seconds instead of holding out your ranged weapon to keep focus stacks up.

The bolter still feels like it's unnecessarily clunky. Everything takes too long to do on it and without a 75+ roll on stability it's like fighting a bucking horse to get on target while firing.

I see it as canonically accurate, no real human person should even control something that big let alone fire it. Sure gameplay wise it could be a bit faster in a board shooter. But you’re mostly using it to clear specials and elites and bosses. Not basic cannon fodder. It’s fracking fun to use tho

@@JackoTheDragon24 The bolter is actually not supposed to have that much kick, and the version that humans use is significantly smaller than an astartes pattern. The idea is that there is a small charge that propels the round out of the barrel and then a rocket engine kicks in once it has cleared, so you actually don't get recoil from the main projectile.

Yep. In most games heresy and above standing still is a death sentence. Most teams don't bother trying to maintain cohesion and so the guy in the back trying to pick off elite enemies becomes the horde-shield for the rest of the team.

Unironically? Most of the Imperium. While of course what we see in the games and campaigns is the giant death-battles because those are what’s interesting, the majority of worlds in the Imperium are not constantly under siege, and most Imperial citizens just work overly long hours pushing papers, growing crops, or working factories and then come home to their family or whatever else. Also, when most Guard regiments reach their end of service, they’ll conquer a frontier world and let the surviving Guardsmen build homes and raise new families on the newly settled world.

I'd love to play bolter if not for the awkward breakpoints on hound, and more importantly its awful unholster speed. Same thing kills the helbore for me. I gotta charge a shot AND turn off the safety? Who the fuck thought that was a good idea to add to the animation set? I kind of get it with bolter its a powerful weapon so a long unholster kinda checks out (even if I hate it), but the helbore is not at all.

As someone who tries to like Marksman focus and the Bolter, this video was a treat. As it stands I cant take this combo in good faith because il be a drag to my team because I dont got the skills shown in the video and it just means im not carrying my weight. Which I can do with other combos. Would you have any tips for anyone getting the 'end the mission with no ammo and 90% accuracy' penance? Its the last penance I need on the veteran together with the group penance that needs that one.

Definitely use a shotgun. Low ammo and hard to miss with it if you're patient. Works best on a close combat build as loosing your range isn't the end of the world

I got this penance yesterday by going into a low intensity assassination mission and using only my melee weapon until the boss showed, then I emptied every round I had into his shield to be sure of 100% accuracy.

I think the issue is that the objectives all kind of blend together. Go to place, wait for timer, maybe interact with an object. If they could come up with something like an escort mission or even just one that is purely wave defense it would feel different.

So there's only so much environmental variation that can occur and all of it is going to have the same backbone. I think they would have more success in varying the gameplay within the environment to keep things interesting.
