Switchbot Blind Tilt and SOMA Tilt 2 Compared - Which is the best smart blind solution?

Since this video was made, the Switchbot Blind now has Homekit integration. While it's not great and it's still better to use the Switchbot hub and app, it's still convenient to have Homekit ability. Hopefully the integration will improve over time with updates. Other than that, this has become one of my favorite home automation devices and the price has allowed me to put it on almost all of my home blinds.

Yeah it’s great and the HomeKit integration is really useful although 99% of the time mine just run with Switchbot scenes automatically every day at certain times

@@MarksTechVlogs Exactly! I mean how many times a day do you need to adjust your blinds? Just set a schedule and let it do its thing. If I DO need to open/close them, I just use the $20 remote along with specific scenes.

@@cheapme1850 Yeah and the Switchbot Blind Tilts and Curtains are perfect for just automating all those things...If I do need to adjust them beyond the schedule (e.g. if the sun is glaring through the blinds) I usually just reach for the Switchbot app

At the moment, the SOMA tilt 2 is better if you want good third party integration. I did buy the Switchbot one via Kickstarter, but as of today, the API is not ready and there is no komekit support. Apparently there is support in Smartthings, I don't use that though. I do prefer the Switchbot offerign though. Cheaper, and allow you to still use the existing wand. The Soma Tilt doesn't allow any manual control once installed. Also, Soma is so much louder and honestly never blends in. The third party integrations with Soma are better though. Once Switchbot introduce proper Homekit and API support for the Tilt, then it will be a no brainer really.

Hi.. nice comparison. I have only one question. Why do you mount the Soma Tilt on the front? It would be a nicer option to turn your blinds around, That way the Soma tilt unit can go on the window frame and you have no issues with cable management. From the inside of you r house it looks so much cleaner that way. Much better then the bulky unit of the Swtichbot. When automating the blinds I don’t see any use of the original rod so I think that would make the Soma Tilt a much better looking option.

Interesting thought about turning the blinds around…that might work…I actually like still having the rod control and have just adjusted slightly with my office blinds…but I do sit right next to them so that’s easy!

Turning the blinds around is a pain in the butt for some blinds (including mine). Cords end up on the wrong side. Also, with some blinds, the mounting doesn't allow them to be swapped with the rod and cords on the outside. As a note, the Soma motor is quite big, not sure how others would be, but I know it would not fit on my window frame. I have Soma Tilt 2, but once Switchbot have the proper API support and Homekit support, I will get rid of the Soma Tilt and replace them with Switchbot.

I agree with Brian. Turn them around to "clean up" the look of the installation. I looked at another review where there was no mention of the SOMA losing connection on a monthly basis....but that is an issue for me as I plan on using something like this on 4 blinds in my TV room. I have a Hunter Douglas Blind on my main window...but regular Faux Wood blinds on the 4 other windows. I like the fairly small package of the SOMA...the Swtichbot is sort of bulky and ugly and I'm not quite sure I would want that big motor hanging off of my blinds. Now...if I can turn the blinds around with the Switchbot...maybe that will be a better option, but that depends on how far out the motor sits.....hmmmm

Compared to the Switchbot offering, these are quite expensive. Switchbot tilt motors are pretty easy to install, secure, have a great app and come in under $70 each at normal price. Also, you just use your existing wand, no disassmbly required. Sunsa are probably quite good, but at over double the price of Switchbot, solar panel costing extra and then rechargeable AA's extra again on top of that, add the fact you remove your existing wand........ Sunsa may suite some people, but I bet most would likely go for Switchbot's offering.

I find it hilarious how the pricing means so much for those that are trying to automate their home. I spent over $ 600 just on wifi switches to completely automate my lights to run with my Alexa. I love the look and operation of the Sunsa Wand! So what it cost more money....do you want that big ol motor hanging off of your blinds, or stuck to your window sill ? I think the Sunsa is a MUCH better option than either the SOMA or Switchbot !! I wil be getting 1 of the Sunsa and try out...I think it's worth the money for the sleekness of the unit and operation. I can even turn the blinds around and hide the rod completely and it look great and friends and family will be amazed of the operation.
