My home town Capt. Kyle. Great city. As long as I lived in Dubuque, they used a tug to aid in coming thru the train bridge. Mostly on the southbound tows when we had high water. I've come thru there many times when I worked on the river as a deckhand.

I respect how respectful you are towards your deckhands. My old towboat captain never gave us any compliments. He was just an ass all the way around. I guess 44 years of dealing with greenhorns turned him salty. Keep up the good work, captain 👍

Thank you. Though I do edit my own videos. 🧐👍🏻 I can get a bit “salty”. Haha I generally try to give respect to my crew members. 👍🏻

@marktwained it get frustrating especially when you have a tree stuck in between 2 empties and your trying to get the wires tight. We all get salty at times. it's normal . I worked with some deckhands that were stubborn as hell, and they hated the captain, and I would try to tell them that the captain has a big responsibility piloting the boat and overlooking our movements and actions so dont get pissed when he sees you doing something wrong and he calls you out on it. I saw the 1st mate slap the shit out of a guy because he wouldn't stop ice skating across the head of the tow. The captain gave him a few chances, but he ended up putting him off in Chester, illinois lol

Ah DBQ IA my home away from home. I always loved being around the river. Prarie Du Chein is another one of my fav places.

Prairie is definitely a beautiful city though I haven't been up that way in several years I south of cassville and that's even a beautiful city and the river is more narrow in that area so the main channel isn't as far away from the Wisconsin side in that area.

What are the advantages of being a trip pilot? I know the pay is different and there is no insurance. I work on 6 packs, mainly in the ICWW from Houston to Baton Rouge.

Port captains ask me, instead of tell me. 😎👍🏻 Also I prefer a flexible schedule, different scenery, vessels, and meeting different folks.

Is the tug a private contractor ?
@marktwained2 ай бұрын
