Thank you for the very useful video! We are in this area in February and we can use these tips very well. Usually we are always in Northern Norway, but this time we want to experience and photograph snow-covered trees and the wonderful landscape of Pallas Yllästunturi National Park. Best regards, Berni

Welcome here. I also sometimes drive to Norway, if it's cloudy here and northern lights forecast is promising.

Thank you. We are really looking forward to it. Especially for the silence. Enjoying the northern lights in peace and quiet. We'll have a small hut and can start snowshoeing right from the door. Of course, we also have a car. The landscape in Northern Norway (especially on Senja) is also wonderful and it is possible to take great pictures with this landscape and the polar lights. But now, as a supplement, Finnish Lapland. We've already made it about 50 km to Kilpisjärvi (to escape bad weather in northern Norway) and we really liked the landscape there. Best regards.

Kiitos vinkeistä! Lokakuussa ollaan kaksi viikkoa Ylläksellä. Toivottavasti silloin olisi revontulia.

This video is very helpful since I have planned on going to the Äkäslompolo area some time to shoot the northern lights. Thanks a lot! How about Aakenustunturi? Is that a recommended location for aurora photography? I like the looks of it since it's such a long fell. I visited the area (stayed at Hotel Äkäskero) twice in the mid 80s but I guess a lot has happened since then.

I've never been at Aakenustunturi at dark time, but it would surely be nice place for northern lights photos. It just need quite a lot more hiking than these I have on video. There is very nice small ponds on top of Aakenus at the Pyhäjärvi end of the fell. I would say it's a very nice location on both autumn and winter. Trails to there are not as visible than to other places and if you get lost, it will be harder to find back. I tried to collect to this video safe places for everyone.

Are there any free over night cottages for hikers? Like in Sweden Kungsleden trail there are some cottages for hikers.

Those spots on this video are very close Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi village, but if you go further to national park, there are huts. More info about the park you will find here www.nationalparks.fi/pallas-yllastunturinp
