Coastal Animist my comment was aimed at the OP. His comment is only relevant when you watch only the first half of the video. Anyway yeah sure your influences can make you put things together a certain way, but for me that isn’t enough to immediately dismiss all coincidences like this. For me i find this quite uncanny mainly because how the actual lyrics for the song says “and sometimes words have two meanings”. To be watching this video, one would think you would either be a fan of Led Zeppelin and/or a Christian. It would be in one’s nature to dismiss this if they were a fan but not religious, and conversely to accept it if they were religious and not a fan, generally speaking. Keep in mind I’ve been a huge fan of stairway and like all guitarists have learnt the intro, but I’m still somewhat undecided on this

In my case, I wasn't raised in a religious family, nominally Catholic, essentially Atheist, but I became a Christian in my early 20s, but not in one of the KJV-only, scared-of-the-world denominations. From the time I was 11 or 12yo, I was reading about the Salem Witch Trials, witchcraft, demonology, the paranormal... I'm not prone to nightmares, and I love the "occult horror" genre. I wasn't primed to see bogeys and demons in arbitrary places, so I don't. All the "Christian Truthers" who seek esoteric symbolism in plain sight, or hidden messages in media, are usually repeating what others have said, rather than doing their own research. If back-masking is still an unanswered question for you, ask *why* they would bother. What use is there in hiding barely-understandable "secret messages" in music that's always played forward? If you're trying to corrupt Christians, wouldn't it be smarter to hide those "spells" and "secrets" in recordings of hymns, or in Christian music? Why hasn't any "Christian Truther" bothered to reverse some Amy Grant or Carman, looking for those messages? Perhaps, because they're just scapegoating, and don't wanna find things in their own music?

I remember being in middle school and this became a huge deal with our parents. My mom brought home a book that went through most of the popular rock bands of the 70's like the Eagles, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy, and Rush and went into detail about how each of these bands were satanic. As a teenager with your hormones out of whack it really brought on a lot of guilt about liking a lot of good music. It's one of things about the 80's that was not so great and that people who say they wished they lived in the 80's probably can't understand.

Additionally, the audience in this video were at a televangelist taping and previous “satanic” messages had already been primed to them, so they could’ve easily self-primed themselves and anticipated more messages. Backward phrasing does happen in the English language occasionally, though it can't affect you subliminally. Case in point: My daughter spent the weekend with me when she was about seven or so and we played around on my computer, and at one point, I got out my microphone and we recorded a mock interview where I talked to her and she mentioned about having a dog and a cat and I joked that the cat should be shot. She laughed, grabbed the microphone and loudly said, "NO, SHE SHOULD NOT! NO, SHE SHOULD NOT! NO, SHE SHOULD NOT!" Then afterwards I played it back for her, then played it backwards just cause I thought she'd get a kick out of the sound. She did. She thought it sounded like a foreign language. Led Zeppelin's song Stairway To Heaven is NOT Backwards Masked! I sang the song acapella and recorded it on a open reel recorder and then played the tape backwards and it says the same things with me singing it - just like it does if you play Led Zeppelin's LIVE version from the Song Remains The Same soundtrack - just like it does with any other version that the same words are being sung. It's those particular syllables sang backwards that gives that same effect. You can hear the same kind of eerie stuff if you play church music backwards, a sermon or a political speech, a newscast of a sports event (such as basketball or boxing, football etc that has a lot of talking) or a recitation of Macbeth from Shakespeare or an opera. Some of my techy friends and I did several experiments when we heard this on TBN and the results are always the same - anything backwards on tape has some very strange and suggestive audio examples that one can hear cursing, satanic stuff, and if you really want to hear stuff, just manipulate the speed or use your imagination. REAL Backwards Masking is very obvious and sounds like the tape is playing forwards NOT gibberish like this.
