This woman is a legend and a warm part of all my good childhood memories. My family never missed a single episode of The Jeffersons or 227. The role of Mary Jenkins was a complete departure from that of Florence Johnston, and Gibbs did a smashing job on both.

He should've had his homies storm the place, but he was all in the middle of it. Front running it since it wasn't murder lol. Anyhow..he wasn't doing anything behind the scenes but just being himself. Cosby, however, was trying to make something for us. And it's sad how they did him..but what's sadder is that no other black person is stepping up to do something like that. The closest thing we got is Jay Z trying to weasel himself into the NFL.

I love Marla Gibbs. She was wonderful on the Jefferson's & 227. I remember writing her a fan letter back in the early 1980's and she was kind enough to send me a beautiful autographed photo and a note written to me. I still have it in a photograph album to this day. She is a class act!

Debbie Allen was getting paid bc of intellect but even she was still underpaid. Those were times where black people loved and admired but not valued.

And richer. So I just WATCHED Jeffersons and enjoyed it. But with 227, it was like I EXPERIENCED it. the women around me spoke like that. They stood up for each other. The men were men and the women were women. All with individual identities. And they were just regular folks keeping it moving. Not rich, but not quite struggling either. I'm 84born. That show was on reruns by the time I was aware enough to make sure I sat down in front of the t.v. when it came on

*Jefferson's got cancelled because it got old and jumped the shark, back in the day whenever you had a "Hawaii" episode, your days were numbered because the writers just ran out of material, Brady Bunch went to Hawaii, Sanford & Son went to Hawaii, plus times changed and you couldn't say the things they said on TV back then.*

He’s probably a Youngin and just recently watched anything Marla Gibbs was in to half way be prepared for this interview. Kind of how students cram study from test/exams.
No shade, but I am not getting the same energy that I would get from a Vlad interview...

I love Marla Gibbs! I loved watching "The Jeffersons" and "227." I never knew the story behind "227" until I saw this! Those programs were part of my childhood. I'm 50 and white, although I don't take a lot of sass from people at work because I grew watching Florence Johnston!
