He was married for years and no one knew because it would affect his marketability. They had to seem available to the ladies and a sex symbol that the men wanted to emulate.

Bob Marley dishonoured his wife and opened the door for others to do the same. Word to the side chicks; a marriage is a legally binding document; it doesn't matter if the married couple is not functioning exclusively - in sickness and in death the wife will make the decisions. You will end up forlorn like Cindy sitting at the back of the funeral although you want to be sitting at the front with his wife. It's unfortunate that at this time at the release of the movie when we should be talking about Bob Marley's legacy and how Rita was integral to that, we are talking about Cindy. Bob Marley was legally married to Rita, if he wasn't, she would not have legally gotten access to his estate before and after he pasted away. Only his mother, Rita and ALL of his children inherited his estate.. This was a young man coming from nothing to becoming famous. When Bob was transferred to Miami, Cindy said she went back to Jamaica to look about Damian and went to Miami at the very end just before he died. When she arrived Bob said “oh so you come back” as if he never expected to see her come back. You can read between the lines but these are roughly her words. I think with all the shit Bob put women through, in those days there wasn’t really much you could do about it. I think Bob knew Cindy was vex with him but he had bigger tings to think about. I also hear she wasn’t actually there when he died, even if she cared for him beforehand and she was made to sit at the back of the funeral.

I think the reason it’s being brought up again is because the most recent film basically erases the obvious. Whatever opinion people have of Cindy, which is valid, the film focuses on Exodus, his biggest album and one of the biggest albums of the 20th century. Cindy and Bob started their affair in the studio at the beginning of the production of Exodus. Two of the songs on the album, “Turn Your Lights Down Low” and “Waiting In Vain” were written about and for Cindy. She wasn’t just a side chick, she was the muse of his most pivotal work of art to date. This is a historical drama. Why would you erase Cindy’s presence from that part of Bob’s story when she was a main character in that part of his life and career? I know Rita produced the movie but like gurl? What in the revisionist history 😂

Thank the Marley family for an amazing film. Kingsley seemed to channel Bob in many ways. Bob may have loved both women, who really knows, but Rita and her kids carry the name and the wealth, so she in the end was his queen. Jamaica back then was a man's country, with men having and doing as they pleased. This is still true to an extent, but with so many Jamaicans being Jamericans and Jamnadians, especially among the middle classes, this kind of behavior is less tolerable to women under 40 and their suitors have had to come correct or be more discreet.
