How to remove and change out your Marlin Model 60 Magazine Follower. This was conducted on a 1980 Glenfield Marlin 60 22lr semi auto rifle. Both the Glenfield and Marlin are the same rifles and share the same parts, the Glenfield was produced from 1960 to 1983 or so, afterwards Marlin dropped the Glenfield name which was a low cost department store version, the rest of the Model 60s were just sold under the Marlin name.

that was an outstanding info video. I have my mod 60 tube out of the gun right now. The only thing I can add to the video is just go ahead and give the springs and inside of the tube a good cleaning.

A good valid point! I was actually surprised how clean my mag tube and spring were, especially since the rest of the rifle was banged up and dirty.

Hey friend, thank you. My 84 yr old Dad said he missed shooting his Marlin model 60 .22LR. Told me it has been broken for years. The problem was the broken magazine follower. I didn't expect there to be any info on this and then "behold". Your excellent video guide to repairing it. Followed your instructions and now Dad is a happy camper!

Great work on a finnicky tricky little piece of work I got the same job to do on a Henry .22 and you're right there's not much online to help with a job like this, I like your little block of wood / tool you made that just made the whole business of doing it right so much easier. I'm gonna make myself one of those same block o' wood tools.even before I have a go at my loading tube, You done real good Man!!! you did a real professional job . And thanks for your advice ,

I saw that eBay (and other places) sell brass followers for the rod. It would be cool to see someone do a video trying that out.

Great video thanks! One thing I would add is if your OCD like me wear gloves when doing this and clean it. This way your finger oils never touch the metal and corroded it. Especially if your like me and almost never do this. Over time the salt and oil from the hands could just where ever it touched. Thanks again for the videos lighting was good enough and angles were perfect!

Thankfully I've never had that problem with my mod 60, but being 40 years old its bound to happen someday! Thanks for the guide. I love that gun, and actually just yesterday I bought a savage a22 so it didn't have to feel alone lol. Take er easy man, thanks for the new vid!

Chevy Orange Deere Green The model 60 I got recently for $50 dollars had a lot of missing pieces and a broken follower, the stock had been previously sanded on and general neglect amongst the whole rifle. It is definitely a project gun and I was considering doing more videos on it to show its progress of restoration. Savages are decent but I prefer really old firearms with lots of history behind it as opposed to just run of the mill stuff. Thanks for the comment.

76hotrodF250 I'd definitely stay tuned in for some m60 refurb videos. $50 on an old marlin is a steal, they don't get traded often, and the new ones just dont have the same feel.. I enjoy firearms of all variety vintage or new!

I just recently bought a Marlin SS 60 with a matching scope for $50. Guy sold it because of FTE & FTL. I've discovered the follower is getting hung in the tube and i'm gonna go ahead and replace the recoil spring anyway.

Wow cool thing. I paid $70 for mine from a rummage sale from a guy I also bought a shotgun from. Claimed it was only shot 2 or 3 times🙄 it was super dirty but everything was in good shape after a deep clean using hoppe's 9. Shoots amazing for being from the 80s. If y'all want a lighter pull I got my stock one down to 2.6 oz just buy buying a spring kit from online. It makes the gun way easier to get longer shots without pulling it. The trigger guard eventually broke so I bought an after market aluminum one with a fatter trigger. That's pretty good and removed the take up pressure but it's a bit weird to get use to. Long story short the model 60 is a great gun with some upgrades out there if you need them. Only replace the trigger guard if you need it.....the aluminum one I bought wouldn't have been worth it if it wasn't broke. Keep it rust free. God Bless.

Very helpful. Here in NZ we have to limit tube mage to 10. Opening this up allows us to put a brass plug 8 shots long down the middle. Thanks.

Ya, but sorry bud, you flipped the little 'washer' between springs out and about someplace...heard it hit. Thanks for the ideas and heads up. I think I'll put it in a plastic drink bottle to release tension...or something close...or wrap my hand around it completely. Have the brass version coming:)

Many many pins on firearms are "taper pins" I believe its universally agreed upon taper pins are installed from right to left. And removed by tapping left to right. Handedness is referenced with regard to the weapon pointed away from u and being proper way up. Even referencing parts removed from the gun their handedness is determined as if they were still installed in the weapon. If ur pins are getting "buggered up " ur probably putting them in/ removing them from wrong way. Also if u do mash a pin thru the wrong way the only way to fix it is to re-drill the hole to next size up and use an appropriate size TAPER REAMER! Ream from right to left until the pin sits just where u want it. IMPORTANT! Roll pins/ split pins are not acceptable as replacement for a fucked taper pin bore. If ur model 60 is misfiring more than 1 in 1000 there is a problem with the weapon. Usually due to being slap wore out, but a pin and spring kit has transformed many a rattle trap 60 misfire machine back into a reliable and highly accurate weapon. Also recomend chromed barrel liners on this platform. One of the best things about these guns is u can pickup a couple non functional rifles for less than $100 for 2! A rebuild kit (all new springs, pins, sears etc.) of ur choice and picking out the best parts from the 2 guns and making the closest tolerance weapon u can assemble.

I have a question. There is a bit of tension left in the spring between the roll pin and the re-installed cap assembly. Why doesn't that tension push the cap assembly back out?

Ok, decent video, But,,, that pin needs to be protruding out on both side of the Tube. Great Idea on the wood block.

Ebay sells a brass follwer that will last forever.
@pyrofful
@pyrofful 4 жыл бұрын
True but eventually brass will hold dirt and grit and get scratched up SLOWLY eating into the tube as it goes. The plastic lasts a LONG time and is lighter meaning the spring doesn't have to use as much force to push it forward. I would think keeping the spring in better shape over the long term. Metal is creat for heavy wear areas but I think mine is original and it's from the 80's.
