Excellent video. 👍 A truly under-appreciated player from NFL history. Talented player, fun to watch too. Glad he’s getting some due today.

Outstanding video and as a Dol-Fan thanks for reminding folks that this trailblazer was a member of NFL's only unbeaten untied team the 1972 Miami Dolphins.

If I'm not mistaken, Fritz Pollard was actually the first black QB in the NFL. I can see where Marlon Briscoe would first in the modern era though.

George Taliaferro was actually the first to start at QB in the modern era. He started at QB for the Baltimore Colts on November 22 1953. Didn’t have a great game but did throw a TD pass.

Too bad that many of football fans, never heard of him

Hard to say how much him being black had to do with teams not wanting him playing quarterback when he was 5'10". I tend to think height was an even bigger factor, if he was 6'3" I think they'd have been willing to give it a roll.

However, it's been well-documented Briscoe had 70-75 yard range on his arm. And his 14 TD passes as a rookie in a season is STILL a Broncos record. John Elway nor Tim Tebow broke that.

@gavinnorley5457 Жыл бұрын
True but Gilliam wasn't in the NFL until 1972 and Briscoe started his first game in 1968.

And Marlin had a lot tougher road to travel than Joe. Marlin paved the way and then James Harris proved a Black QB could win in the playoffs. Bottom line, Marlin broke a barrier. Same with Willie Lanier at MLB.

Marlin Briscoe had a great arm. They wasted his talents at receiver.
