Rarely do you find emotional intelligence used in hip-hop today. It allows an MC to create authentic moments and Marlon Craft clearly does that. He should be proud of not only what he is creating but how he is creating it.

@Aaa bbb to me, an MC that possesses emotional intelligence not only has the ability to use music to articulate their emotions but they’re also not afraid to cast aside the stigma that rap lyrics need to have an undertone of bravado. Others that have done this are artists like Talib Kwali, Mos Def, Common. While considered “conscious “ rap, to me it’s just being unapologetic about being human.

Marlon, you got me crying so hard right now. I had my first son when I was 15 and a freshmen In high school in 2002. I was the first one in my entire school to have a kid and lost a lot of my friends once he was born. Months later me and his mother would split up ( she was 18 ). The next 18 years were full of so many ups and downs. Wins and loses. I watched him grow and learn and struggle. We cried and laughed together. Times we couldn't see each other. My son is 18 years old now and living on their own. We talk every day and they are my best friend to say the least. This song is everything that a young me wanted to say to the little child that was growing inside her. When we would sit in the lunchroom and have everybody starring at us while I kissed her belly or held her hand to walk her through the hallways. When we saw him on the ultra sound for the first time and I heard his heart beating. These are the words I wanted to tell my son. I just sent them the link to this song. Thank you for making such beautiful art and letting me share in it. Im moved and humbled by your words and I just wanted to say thank you Mr. Craft.
