I knit swatches using all three of the methods you have demonstrated and found them to be very similarl. Then I found a tutorial which is all knit stitches. The set up row is all K and the pattern repeat row is *K1, K1B* with no purling at all using the same pattern on both sides. It could not be easier. I knit a swatch using that method and found it mostly identical to the three you are showing. Can you do another tutorial with the all Knit version.

I have just added a comment (20 February 2022). I too learned the K1, K1B way and it is the one that my sisters, my friends and I have always used. I added a few details about it in my comment. I hope that you will not be offended, as I added your comment as a reference at the end of mine. It was yours that inspired me to add mine. Take care and have a good day.

How is the pattern the same on both side?
@JJ-yc2sv
@JJ-yc2sv Жыл бұрын
@@buckets13 Because you're alternating with each row. Knitting on one side is the same as purling on the other. It's almost like you're doing k1, s1.

Thank you so much for this clear explanation, Marly!!! Why didn't I think of it before? I like purling, but being able to do this with just knitting is so much easier. My current project is worked flat and started with a K1,P1 border so I have abandoned the purls altogether and have good results from K1B, K1 on one row then K1, K1B on the next (knitting below into the K columns as they appear). I also find it just a little bit easier to knit below under the purl bump from the previous row.

Thank you very much for your tutorial. Like Dorothy Rockwell (cf. her 'Comment' from 3 months ago, reproduced at the end of my comments), I learned to work this stitch an other way, i.e. with K1, K1B without any purl stitches at all. I learned it as a child, many years ago. We called it 'maille anglaise' - 'English stitch'; also called 'côte anglaise'. I prefer it because it is so simple, it is easy to 'read' and it prevents mistakes. When working flat, beginners might find the pattern easier to 'read' when knitting with an even number of stitches. Knitting it in the round is just as simple: just work the pattern on an uneven number of stitches. Increases and decreases in 'maille anglaise' are also possible, just as they are most likely possible in the 3 ways described in your video and they are in Brioche stitch. Have a good day and take care. Dorothy Rockwell il y a 3 mois I knit swatches using all three of the methods you have demonstrated and found them to be very similarl. Then I found a tutorial which is all knit stitches. The set up row is all K and the pattern repeat row is K1, K1B with no purling at all using the same pattern on both sides. It could not be easier. Another Fisherman's Rib pattern I learned was K1below, P1below for every row. It could be worked on 1x1 or 1x1+1 rib. It makes a VERY thick and cushy fabric, but it eats a lot of yarn.

This is great. I’m hoping you can answer a question. I’m struggling with a pattern of fisherman’s rib. I was knitting flat using the k1b, p method. I then have to close to round. When I do, the pattern of ribbing ends up reversed from what’s knit below it (flat). I can’t figure out how to get the pattern to fall on the correct side.

I was trying to make one of your easy bottom to top hats. I saw a little video talking about the different stitches for the cuff. I'm doing sc cuff. Mine isn't that stretchy. The yarn I'm using has been used before and changed my mind and frogged it. Then rolled into a big ball. It's Caron one pounder regular worsted. Is that why it's not stretchy or am I crocheting too tight?

The knit version you do is not correct. In the knit version you do the second row as you do and then all other rows are knit only! Only the second row is knit one below and purl one. All next rows is knit one below, knit one. You knit one in the row where the last stitch has a double loop. No purling needed after the second row. That's why it's called the knit version.
