Hey Tim I got your the modeling and texturing tutorial as a gift yesterday, I am only at the episode 5 now, but so far i am loving it and i am lerning so much from you. In the tutorial you were wondering though how you could prevent objects from having random colors when being created, and I incidentally found a solution. In the modify section, just above the "modifier list" there is a pop up window where you can adjust the color of the object ( "object color", there a check box called "assign random colors", uncheck it and you always will have nice grey objects :D Keep up the great work, I am looking forward to new tutorials :)

Wow you know what man I must say whoever designed this mech did a damn great job! It has a fun look about it & clearly the concept artist has good design sense. Did the author of this video design this concept? Sorry I just discover this channel & will be purchasing your tutorials very soon, I dont really need the modeling portion as I am quite comfortable with that area but I dont mind spending money for those who deserve the hard work & effort to help the community. Now that I have this new laptop with great specs, I will get into substance painter (previous comp it did not run barely) and I also been working on my concepting skills a bit but long way to go. I have tried the older trial version of toolbag a while back & it was good fun but this toolbag 3 looks like they added a ton of huge features that I did not expect this looks to add so much fun to the process. Thanks for all your work
@ChamferZone
@ChamferZone 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Dentist, thank you! I am glad you like the design of it, the concept stages for this were all done by me in 3ds Max. I had this idea for a mech since a long time and essentially I downloaded hundreds of mech concepts and kitbashed together some of the best parts from various ones until I got something I like. Each piece has its inspirations from some concept but without being 1:1 the same. It wasn't easy but eventually it would turn into something that I felt had the right kind of look. I knew I wanted it to be a chubby looking mech with fat legs and guns for arms. You can see here an earlier version of the mech that I did as a written tutorial for 3DArtist magazine. www.3dartistonline.com/news/2017/05/3ds-max-tutorial-hard-surface-modelling-for-a-mech/ After that got published I took that same mech and iterated more on top of it until I came to the shape as seen now in the tutorial. Let's just say it would be really great if I was able to do my own concepts but I am not very good at drawing, something that would be worth improving upon for sure because then I would save a ton of work. Glad you found the tutorials and like them! Cheers, Tim
@XTheDentist
@XTheDentist 6 жыл бұрын
Oh thats great info thank you again sir & I will check out the 3d artist article. I myself actually am comfortable with traditional drawing pencils but trying my hand at concepting is indeed TOUGH but I accidently discovered a method just doodling which I later found out is called "speed forms" you should check that out if you not heard of it, basically you just build long quick curving or angled strokes than keep adding stuff without thinking too hard about it & its amazing what comes out lol. So After doing a couple speed forms I can interpret the side view as some kind of ship or something then try to model it.....at least that is my plan but first I have quite a bit of studying to do with Substance Painter im very excited for this software

So after you create the Turn Table, how do you render it then to get a Turn Table Render? Do you click Image or Video?
@ChamferZone
@ChamferZone 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Alston, that is a fair point. I should have mentioned that. Yes all you have to do ten is click on render video and you are good to go! You can also click .. sync time (or something like that) within the turntable options. That way you make sure it comes out as a perfect looped video.

Does Marmoset 3 not have render modes? I see one video on KZbin with Marmoset 1 that has an indirect diffuse rendering option, but the comments are disabled, so I cannot ask the artist. I can't find good information on it in forums either.

+ChamferZone Can you please do a tutorial on baking normals in Marmoset? I am having issues in baking proper normals in Zbrush and Xnormals on a very low poly asset from the high poly sculpted details.
@ChamferZone
@ChamferZone 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Vicky, sorry for the slow reply. To be honest I only bake my stuff in Substance Painter, I prefer that because it keeps it all within one application and easy to rebake. That way I don't have to import it from somewhere else also the bake results in Painter are perfect for Painter, the curvature map for example is kinda different from the one you would get with xnormal or quixel. Another reason why I think its best to keep it all within one application.
