My father fought in Italy, 4th Indian I think. In his later years he would talk about some of his experiences. He said the first morrocan he met his mate shot dead. MY Dad and his mate threw him in a tank track and he got flattened. It appeared my father and his mate were spotting for artillery in the roof of a farm building. The farm was occupied by an old couple who had nowhere to go. During an attack, this morrocan came into the farmhouse and started punching the old chap and assaulting the old women. Somehow, they heard the old women screaming and ran into the room as the morrocan had the old woman over a table. My father couldn't find his rifle, so he hit him with a chair then his mate shot him. They dragged him outside and a tank turned him into jam. My father said it was nothing. He said there were dead bodies everywhere, like sheep in a field. A phrase which I'll always remember. My father, then a 19 year old ex student who had won a scholarship to Bradford art school.

My father was a forced laborer in Oberndorf a.N. in the south of Germany. He was happy that the French colonial troops liberated him and his comrades in April 1945. But he always called the Moroccans a bunch of perverts because he had seen what they had done to women and young boys.
@arthas6404 ай бұрын
I'll never understand many Muslim cultures: they're violently homophobic but diddling boys is weirdly common. The Taliban were big fans of a custom called "bacha bazi" where they basically have your standard "harem girl" only it's an underage boy and it's an old custom in Afghanistan and to a lesser extent into Pakistan. There were similar customs in Egypt and the Ottoman Empire but they've largely died out there, but "Turkish baths" are still a fairly common gay hookup place (although the diddling underage boys part of the baths has thankfully pretty much died out).

@@Dragonkillerss Colonialism was a bitch but with WW2 the colonies were a bit of give and take. Colonial troops were forced to fight in Europe but European troops were also forced to fight in the colonies, and while resources (mainly food and fiber) were pulled from the colonies the colonies got virtually all their weapons, vehicles, and manufactured goods from Europe. The colonies were technically pulled into the war on behalf of their overlords, but you can ask the Chinese, Thai, Albanians, Greeks, and Ethiopians how the Axis treated neutral countries so their involvement in the war was pretty much mandatory, you pretty much needed to be in Sub-Saharan Africa or the America's to really be neutral, or be too difficult to invade like Switzerland or covertly help the Axis like the Swedes. The Moroccans were stuck in the same boat as everyone else in Eurasia and North Africa: it was either fight or be conquered. The Axis weren't any better masters then the European colonial empires so being "grateful" was a 2 way street, the French owe their colonies a debt for supplying much needed manpower (few realize just how under powered France was due to a variety of factors like all the drop in population during and after WW1) while France supplied officers and equipment that the colonies couldnt really supply in meaningful amounts if at all. It does suck though that empires like the French basically just swept all of that under the rug so they could push the image of the proud French resistance fighter boldly standing against the Fascists while ignoring the hundreds of thousands of colonial troops who fought the Axis and they're even more keen to ignore how many French resistance fighters and soldiers joined the Axis or served as Soviet puppets.

This is a cultural issue. We live in a world where we're fed utopian bovine excrement about multiculturalism. We're all equal. All cultures are good. None is superior to others. That's manure. The culture from which these Moroccan troops came is the same culture that invaded Europe and turned cities where it's invaders settled into centers of violation since 2015. These crimes are committed by people who grow up learning that it is permissible and proper for men to do this. It is a centuries-old idea inscribed in certain books as religiously-protected or even blessed behavior. It's a culture based on theft and conquest and has been since its inception. It is a culture that is not compatible with mainstream western culture today where women have equal rights and freedoms in society. Yes, these crimes were committed by French, American, and British troops during WW2. They weren't common and they were punished harshly by military justice by their commanders. That was not true of the Soviets who were encouraged by Stalin himself to take their revenge on German women. What they did makes this Marrocchicate look like child's play. As a Moroccan, I have heard reports from older people who lived through the French occupation when France decided to force conscription on the population, 1 head per household. Oftentimes, families will choose to sacrifice the mentally challenged / retarted ( offensive nowadays, I know ) and keep the sane, given the nature of the occupation and inadequate access to meds for those kind of cases, there wasn't a shortage of those people. they were sent to training, given supplies and sent to the front lines. All they learned and all they did was violence. And you may deduct how that would go with the largest and most important battle reaching an abrupt end. They were fierce fighters, brave even, as they were trained to kill and maim. Is France to blame for not pulling them back and giving them adequate treatment? Are the families to blame for choosing them over their sane siblings? Were moroccans the only ones who committed these acts of terror ? Or were they the scapegoats for what the allies, and French soldiers specifically, did in retaliation for what the Germans did before? Can't say for sure. My ❤ is with the victims and their families.

These were committed mainly by the Moroccan Goumiers, colonial troops of the French Expeditionary Corps (FEC),[1] commanded by General Alphonse Juin, and mostly targeted civilian women and girls (as well as a few men and boys) in the rural areas of Southern Lazio, between Naples and Rome.

yeah this is a terrible crime but wasnt the worst crime of WW2 by a loooooong shot. It's not even the most obscure really, the issue of "comfort women" in the Pacific Theater is rarely talked about and it was 10x worse then this. The Japanese obsession with youth and purity also lead to their soldiers mainly going after really young girls too, they'd often just kill women over 30 while mainly wanting to rape young girls, especially underage girls. I remember the first time i heard a story of a comfort woman and it was pretty wild, they literally raped her sister to death and she was like 13 and raped her and she was like 10. Read a story once of some US soldiers in the Philippines who liberated a brothel for comfort women and nearly all the girls were underage, many were under 13 when they were first taken, and it wasnt uncommon for girls to be traded around from brothel to brothel or unit to unit and even in the countries where it happened it's not widely talked about while the US just kind of swept it under the rug.

It was their war, that's how colonialism works. And the French used them because most of their soldiers in Europe joined the Nazis when France fell so their army was basically just soldiers posted in the colonies or colonial troops. A huge part of the Free French Forces were from Africa. As someone else mentioned the Brits did the same, they had something like a million Indian soldiers and over 87k Indians died in WW2. Gotta remember nearly every country was scrapping the bottom of the barrel: even the US who was the best off of all the allies still recruited tons of underage kids into the military, they passed people unfit for service, and recruited tons of people they normally didnt allow into the military like black people and native Americans and France was much worse off. Also didnt help that part of the reason why France collapsed so fast during the invasion was because the country was still short manpower after WW1, their economy was still struggling too from a lack of young men

In Galicia and Bukovina, the Jewish population was particularly targeted by the brutality of the Cossacks, whose pillage, destruction, murder, and rape were condemned in Austro-Hungarian reports. Civilians were treated much worse by the scorched-earth policy of the retreating Russian troops than by the German invaders. The point here is mass rapes were not solely the fault of Arabs or Berbers or black troops in both wars; all sides participated, or their commanding officers ignored them.

I saw the movie, “two women,“ with Sophia Loren it is an Italian. There’s a scene where she disrobes and exposes her breasts, but it is in no way, erotic it tragic and it’s heartbreaking.

The Arabs from the French troops did the same in occupied Germany, after the war ended. That was the sole reason for a whole German town to revolt against the French occupiers. So, what did the French do? They surrounded the town with cannons and shelled the town and the unarmed German civilians. This cannot be done without orders from officers, so, they endorsed the bad deeds of their North African soldiers.
