A little nostalgia is to blame. When a band is important when you're younger, it hits hard. So, when that band has to change, it's rough. Today, everything gets done with a heavy dose technology. Believe me, I feel it too.

@@learnedscholar this song isn’t pop idiot. Literally nothing about it is pop, it’s only even charitably called “pop rock” because of the context of their other music. The instrumentation is all rock instruments, the distortions are classic rock, the lyrics are about something heavy, and the vocals compliment that well in this track.

I love guitar-based rock, even when it's pop-rock! Love the riff, the muted string scratch, percussion and searing vocals! I also like M5's more "poppy" ballads, like Payphone, Memories, Girls Like You, Sunday Morning, etc. Not because they are guitar-based, but for the beautiful catchy melodies + touching lyrics. This band has a brilliance in them and/or behind them, that's made them international stars.

that is because maroon 5 sold out to the record company. Them selling out causes them to make music based on what the company wants and not what the band wants. Then the record company pays the radio stations to play the songs that the record company wants played. I know this true because my uncle works for OctoScope.

I remember when I first heard this song. It was 2am in the morning and I crashed out so that the TV, MTV was watching me. At 2am this song came blasting on MTV and pulled me from a dead sleep to full awareness in seconds. Such was the power of this song. I remember I scrambled to find something to write down the name of this group because I knew I had to have this track. I remember going to the music store the next day at the mall on the hunt for this track. I was so pissed because at this point the music industry had made the decision to no longer sell singles in an attempt to force people to buy the whole CD. This was available to preview and the first thing I took note of was that Harder to breathe was the first track, not stuck in the middle like they did when they had one or two good tracks amongst a sea of shit. I thought it was kind of bold and it made me think these guys know they had gold. Turned out they did. I played that CD on loop in the store 3 times before I took a copy home. Damn near the entire album was fire and I knew an instant classic. Not long after they blew the fuck up. Turned out I was right. They even had Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 singing their praises. Matter of fact Rob Thomas guest performed the song with them. I miss the Maroon 5 that had a bit of an edge and performed like they were hungry and had to pay the rent.

I think there's still hope for them. I saw them live back in February, and this is the way they played. Like a band, not a crappy pop group with the only talented person being the singer. Even the way they did their new songs live reminded me of these times here. If they'd just say piss off to the people that write their music now and go back to doing their own thing, they'd be epic again and even better than they were. Maybe one day they'll come back to their senses.

I saw Maroon 5 on JUN 5 2003. I was front row center It was first come first come first serve seating in St. James Park in San Jose, Ca. I was literally standing up against (and touching) the stage there are pics somewhere to prove it (I was even in the pics the radio station that put on the show had on their website after the show which I thought was awesome cause the internet was still relatively new back then lol) . I got there at least 5 or 6 hours early (around 11-12 pm) and had to stay in that same spot for hours so someone didn't take it cause I went by myself, and that was the days before smartphones to stream stuff to kill time. The opening act started at 5 i think , Maroon 5 came on around 5:30 pm and went til around 7-7:30. It was an awesome show especially up that close, Adam came right up to the edge of the stage many times directly in front of me i was freaking out at that point i think that was the first time i had been literally front row at a concert let alone up against the stage ( i'd been really close before at concerts but not quite that close). I got to meet the whole band after the show in a meet and greet and got their autographs. One cool thing Adam said they had just ended a tour with matchbox 20 and that as a gift matchbox 20 had given everyone on the tour these really nice dslr cameras he said i have it here with me and i want to get a picture of this beautiful crowd so he took a couple pics of the crowd and and i think he took a selfie with the us in the crowd behind him i thought that was cool of him to do i would have loved to have seen the pics though i don't know if he posted them on the internet because social media wasn't really a thing yet back then but i wonder if he still even has that pictures (since that was 19 years ago) cause i think that's cool that I'm in them front and center lol

Lyrics: How dare you say that my behavior's unacceptable So condescending, unnecessarily critical I have got the tendency of getting very physical So watch your step 'cause if I do you'll need a miracle You drain me dry and make me wonder why I'm even here This double vision I was seeing is finally clear You want to stay but you know very well I want you gone Not fit to fuckin' tread the ground that I am walking on When it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love You'll understand what I mean when I say There's no way we're gonna give up (yeah, yeah, yeah) And like a little girl cries in the face Of a monster that lives in her dreams Is there anyone out there 'Cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe Is there anyone out there 'Cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe What you are doing is screwing things up inside my head You should know better you never listened to a word I said Clutching your pillow and writhing in a naked sweat Hoping somebody someday will do you like I did When it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love You'll understand what I mean when I say There's no way we're gonna give up And like a little girl cries in the face Of a monster that lives in her dreams Is there anyone out there 'Cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe Is there anyone out there 'Cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe Does it kill Does it burn Is it painful to learn That it's me that has all the control Does it thrill Does it sting When you feel what I bring And you wish that you had me to hold When it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love You'll understand what I mean when I say There's no way we're gonna give up (yeah, yeah, yeah) And like a little girl cries in the face Of a monster that lives in her dreams Is there anyone out there 'Cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe Is there anyone out there 'Cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe Is there anyone out there 'Cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe

@@Dylan-Frost Yeah, Spotify seem to think I'm like Maroon 5's biggest fan or something but the truth is I only really listen to Songs About Jane and It Wont Be Soon Before Long and that's only 2 of their 7 albums lmao. Just goes to show how brilliant Maroon 5 were back in the 2000's. Like if we're judging by the 2000's Maroon 5 then yeah, they'd be one of my favourite bands, but if it's the 2010's version then they're not even in the discussion- that's how much they declined. At least bands like Coldplay, Paramore, Linkin Park and Foo Fighters still produced great music during the 2010's, they didn't go as far off the rails compared to Maroon 5.

@@shaf621 I love their first 2 albums, and think they were still relatively okay during their Hands All Over era. I've listened to my fair share of Overexposed songs, but V and beyond are absolute atrocities and shouldn't have been put on this planet

I first heard this song in a mashup remix of "Japanese goblin" and "The only thing know for real" and it thought this was sung by some woman with a deepish opera-esque voice

This song would be great as a background song to the recent riot clips.
