Maroon Bells in the Fall is spectacular! From the pics I’ve seen it’s beautiful ANY time of year, but in late September and October, they really show off!
If you plan to visit Maroon Bells, you’ll need to make reservations.
First, choose between a shuttle reservation or a parking (at the trailhead) reservation.
If you want to take the shuttle (which I’d highly recommend), make a reservation ahead of time rather than risk having to wait in “stand-by” and not get on the shuttle. Shuttle reservations can be made for the seasonal dates of May 26 through October 22nd.
SHUTTLE COST: $16 for adults and $10 for children under 12 and seniors (65+)
PARKING AT ASPEN HIGHLANDS (where you will take the shuttle) is $7 an hour or $40 for the day. You do NOT need to make a reservation for this parking ahead of time but good to know for budgeting purposes.
If you want to drive a private vehicle to the trailhead, YOU STILL NEED A RESERVATION, and the dates you can do this are May 15-October 31. Starting November 1st, you can still visit without a reservation, but parking is on a 1st come, first served basis. The road to Maroon Bells closes for the winter around Nov 15 but could be sooner due to snow. On the day of your reservation you need to arrive at the trailhead BEFORE 8:00 AM. There’s also evening parking, 24 hour parking, and overnight parking available. Check out all the details on the website.
More details and the link to making reservations can be found at: aspenchambers.org
They are called the Bells because the shape of the 2 prominent mountains side-by-side, and because at certain times of the year they look Maroon. I think they have a tinge of maroon here.
This hike was a dream come true and I’ll never forget it! Definitely add it to your list if you’re going to be in the Aspen area! Even if you can’t do a big hike you can visit the trailhead area, even in a wheelchair as most of the walkways are paved, and when they are not, the dirt path is wide and fairly level.
I hope you enjoyed this video. Would love it if you gave a 👍 (it really helps) or subscribe for more travel videos and reviews (campgrounds and products).
