Maroussi is a suburb in the Northeast of Athens located 11 km from the City center and today we will take a short walk in its busy commercial area. It is a highly populated area in Athens being conveniently close to many business centers and road networks and neighbouring with the Nothern suburbs of Athens like Pefki, Kifisia, Vrilissia and Halandri. Maroussi dates back to the era of the ancient Athenian Republic. Within Marousi lies the biggest forest in urban Athens, Alsos Syggrou. The marathon runner and Olympian, Spyros Louis who won the first modern-day Olympic marathon at the 1896 Olympics lived and died in Maroussi in Athens. Following his victory, he was celebrated as a national hero.
