Never visited Bletchingley that much when I lived in Surrey. Some of those Tudor buildings and St Mary's Church are beautiful. Pub lunch also looked great.

Lovely Chapel. Looked very peaceful there. Good to see Bletchingley as I lived there many years ago. Once stayed in one of the very old cottages on the High St. It was reputed to be haunted by a soldier but we didn't experience anything other than a very cosy cottage. We went up to the top of the church tower once and had amazing views. Shame about the traffic noise. Hard to get away from it these days.

Beautiful location, the nook under the stairs a modern day hermit cell.

High small ancient door quotient in this video! Plus two very different ecclesiastical buildings. The ladder arrangement looked interesting in the first chapel. Amazing how old some of the cottages were in the village. Thanks for taking us with you - definite pie envy at the end!

Thanks Jean, it is a lovely area to explore (despite the traffic on the A25!)

Love that chapel, Marq - I will have to go and find it. Bletchingley was a wealthy town that rivalled Reigate for size in medieval times, hence the size of the church and the width of the high street to accommodate the market (I think it once had a town charter.)

Ah, that makes sense with the larger High Street and the Market.

A lovely walk around what looks like a model village. And that pie didn’t look like something made somewhere else en masse( I’ll probably be proved wrong but it did look home made)

Thank you for returning to Bletchingley, I do get very emotional when I see photos and videos of where I was brought up, I lived on the White Post Council Estate, went to the old village primary school at the top of the village, then to the secondary school that was onnthe estate, it closed the year before I left school and became the primary school. I would love to return and live the memories I have from so many years ago, but it is a long way from where I am living my retirement years in Cambodia.

The Churches Conservation trust had a video about a woman that got siphilus in the middle ages and had herself walled up in a cell like that for the rest of her life relying upon people feeding her through the hole. She was allowed a cat as a single luxury.

I knew Bletchingley was an oldy worldy place but didn't know some of the houses were 14C. Wow that is old. The church there is stunning from what you've showed us, the statues were immaculately made. I find all this so interesting especially older buildings, how were they built all those years ago?

I grew up in Bletchingley many years ago. Desmond Tutu’s son was in my primary school class while he was there. The village does not appear to have changed much, except many more cars. I live in the United States now and have not been there for many years.
