It amazes me how much cut Pavorotti has. When you look at his head size and body size compared to the other performers on the stage, you can see why his voice towered over the entire stage including the orchestra. The house his voice lived in was huge. His skull, head size, chest size, neck size etc...He had a mammoth house for all that voice to resonate in. That is why he and Sutherland were quite the duo. It is mind blowing.

He makes Florence Quivar seem petite =)

Yeah... Saw Pavarotti in concert a couple times. Even from the nosebleed seats it was obvious who he was just from size alone. One of the rare people who are born with the physical traits for the exact thing they are meant to do. He was an instrument.

Pav was great and he is in top form here, but in unamplified fact, in the opera house it was simply not a large voice. I always called him a large lyric, with a voice so well produced that it seemed larger than it was. It had many other virtues-but compared to the great spintos of his time-it was great for the lyric roles and less historic in the heavier ones. Huge tenor voices were names like Corelli, Tucker, etc. not to mention del Monaco or Vickers.(and none of them were fat) Not a tenor but one of the largest voices was Robert Merrill, a rather ordinary looking guy. Did you ever hear Pav in an opera house-unamplified? If not take my word I heard him many times live at the Met.

Excelente versión. Hay que ver la expresión de Florence Quivar en el 3.08 al escuchar la hermosa y potente voz de Luciano. Sin duda uno de los más grandes tenores de la historia.

The great operatic quartets are just incredible. And this is Verdi, who could write a tune. But, and I almost hate to admit this, when I watch this video I'm left feeling that the other three were, not to put too fine a point on it, basically backing singers. But to be fair this is pretty much the ultimate show-off tenor aria. And who better to show it off than Luciano?

Truly he was tops even when he was in what people like to call his downward slide. As far as im concerned he didnt go down, he was just changed. When you listen to his early voice it was unworldly beautiful, you can hear the different levels in one voice, he sometimes sounded like two people singing. His voice under a spectrogram it had many levels, more than any other analysis, of other voice. Far and above!!!!!
