Not Morocco but the city. Because the capital of the Moroccan empire once was Marrakech that's why younczl it that. The same for tge turkish who calls Morocco Fez because it was the capital of the Marinids, however the country's name in Morocco, before that is Mauritania which is a Moroccan berber kingdom, in Arabic it's Al-Maghreb.

I'm moroccan and yes its safe , just stay away from hustlers , avoid eye contact, always bargain in public markets , and don't go to empty places alone at night , and you'll be safe , also if something happened to you call the police they're very helpful
