Thing I enjoyed about Mint was that it was free and provided a heck of alot more. Paying $100/year to budget your own books defeats the purpose imo.

If a company gives something away for free, they eventually have to find a way to make money from that product or service. For example, the videos you watch here are free. But they cost money to make. To recoup those costs, we hope that we make money from the ads you watch beforehand or if you decide to use our affiliate links from these budget apps.

I agree, and I have private mail for this reason, but its $2 a month. maybe its because I am not a big money maker, but the problem isnt that the product is paid, its that everything these days wants to cost over $5 a piece and the costs add up. So they need more reasonably priced options, maybe some product that focuses on the essentials. $5 a month or preferably less.

Hi I'm looking for very very basic bookkeeping software as a treasurer for an HOA. I have used Quicken personally in the past when it first came out. Basic Quicken with a one time cost of $30.....not this subscription stuff you see now? Is everything subscription now? I want a "one time" cost....can enter a handful of expenses each month and some Dues deposits.....print out reports....and set a budget. Is there ANYTHING out there like this? I love that the apps feed my transactions so I don’t have to manual enter. My issue with the apps I’ve tried is the budgeting. I budget bi-weekly based on our pay cycles. My spending and food budget re-sets bi-weekly. Most of these apps force the monthly budget which throws me off and it doesn’t allow editing of the budget cycle. Any app that you would recommend?

I know this is old but also interested if you’ve found something? I’m using PocketSmith and I honestly love the features and it honors your budget periods by category. I have some categories on weekly payments, some biweekly, others monthly when I view my budget it shows each categories progress within that budget period. A bit of a steep learning curve. Biggest downside for me is the app. Web version is packed full of features i love but the app has very limited functionality

Which do you recommend? My metrics: Use on a PC. I hate the tunnel vision of a cell phone. Is not web based, needs to be independent of internet. Does not link/sync accounts, easier to check and balance when manually enter. Don’t want to rent software. I want a onetime purchase and done. The purpose of a budget is to removing reoccurring bills. But, I don’t need help to budget, I just need to track spending.

Some questions about Monarch: 1. Since Monarch was founded by people who worked at Mint, will they make the same mistakes with Monarch in how they let Intuit purchase Mint? 2. Mint had connectivity issues with Fidelity. Will Monarch have connection issues with Fidelity too? Also, what are your thoughts on the Fidelity Full View app? And are there any "legacy" banking/investing/financial service alternatives to Mint instead of only the services that are either startups or have been around for only a decade?
@MarriageKidsandMoney
@MarriageKidsandMoney 6 ай бұрын
Great questions! 1. I have no idea. I hope not. Since they are charging for their service, hopefully, it will be a profitable and helpful business model for them. That's where Mint failed in my opinion. They definitely had the helpful part, but not the profitable part. 2. According to Monarch, they currently do connect with Fidelity through Finicity -- help.monarchmoney.com/hc/en-us/articles/20209369365140-Connecting-with-Fidelity As for alternatives that aren't new start ups ... check out YNAB. I just use a simple spreadsheet to track my budget. It works great once you take the 40 minutes or so to set it. Also, it doesn’t take much time to input the data - I do it weekly. In my case I don’t believe reoccurring bills will help me reach my goals. Also I don’t need features and real-time data to move forward- all I need is more self discipline. IMHO

@@ericanderson5487 Great question! I'm working on a comparison video right now. I would say that the Monarch budgeting tool is far superior to Empower's tool. But for financial investment management, Empower is better. With Empower, the service is free. That's what I did and I still enjoy using the Empower tool 7 years later.

I hear ya! Try EveryDollar's free version. Unfortunately, it doesn't automatically sync transactions. Or you could use Empower for free as well... their budgeting solution is just not as good as these ones mentioned in the video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJfCXqljad2Fp7csi=gfL8ncHBrUvdBmwY

With a family of four, we have a lot of transactions each month. Manually syncing them wouldn't be worth my time for $9/month. To each their own! Other free options to consider would be Empower as well. They have a free budget planner and other excellent tools -- the budget planner isn't as good as these other ones, but worth checking out if free is important to you right now. Here's an overview: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJfCXqljad2Fp7csi=k504dvZCQZpCAGlf

Thank you for that tip! Yes, they recently started supporting Canadian customers so maybe this will be a bank they support in the future.

I agree, however it can help save money in the long run since the way we budget and manage our money is what makes the biggest difference - more than the amount we make even, to a certain extent. It can save a lot of people from their finances being a hot mess and forgetting to pay bills or accidentally overdrawing their bank account and getting hit with late fees and overdraft fees. I used to have a simple system with balancing a checkbook and wrote all the bills due (along with due dates, amounts, dates paid, etc.) all in columns I made. It was easy and effective. Now keeping track is harder due to more monthly subscriptions for things like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, phone add-ons, BUDGETING APPS lol, etc. All that + having ADHD = 🤯😵‍💫😖😩 I need something with organization or my finances and bills are all jumbled up and a total hot mess.

Monarch has sponsored other videos of ours in the past, but not this video. They are an affiliate of mine. If you use my affiliate link then I get paid a small commission (like $10) for every signup. Outside of how we make money as a channel, my wife and I also use Monarch as our money management tool of choice after Mint went away. I hope that helps!
