Towards the end of of his life my dad had a lot of trouble communicating, was often quiet, and sometimes you'd wonder if he was still "there." But then he'd make a "dad joke" and I'd feel so much better. I know one time my mom and I were with him. Mom was trying to see if he was comfortable and asked "Do you feel funny?" and Dad said "HA HA!" lol

I have a very similar story! My parents had a difficult time conceiving, and then my mom got diagnosed with MS. She was told she shouldn't get pregnant, so they finally looked into adoption, but the adoption service immediately told her she wouldn't get a baby because she 'wouldn't be able to take care of it' 🙄 then they went to get IVF, had me, and, surprise, she's been a great mother to me, and my parents have been married for 34 years.

Before I left I asked them “so you’re Fred and you are Judy right?” Judy replies “yup, but we don’t know who she is!” (Pointing to my great grandma). Like Greg, I also have a neurological disorder, but so lucky to have a husband who loves me as much as Nancy loves Greg. When you're sick, it means the world to have someone by your side; someone who will never give up on you... and even when you wanna give up on yourself, they won't let you❤ this is the True meaning of LOVE.
@nuckinfuts76103 жыл бұрын
That's wonderful. I'm glad that you have that kind of love and partnership in your life. I'm no advocate for marriage by any means, but I gotta admit, whoever originally wrote those vows were onto something. To devote yourself completely to someone for better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do you both part is one spot on depiction. One that's also really underrated. Sadly, we've heard them so much that it's lyrics have lost it's impact and meaning. When you find the kind of love that's unabashed, unrepentant, audacious, unconditional, fierce, untamed, unfeigned...you just know when you got it. And gurl, you got that ish. 💕👍
@wandafrmbama58033 жыл бұрын
@@nuckinfuts7610 I agree with them all also BUT the “till death do you part” for me isn’t true. My husband passed about 11 years ago at the age of 46, I was 44, we had been married for 27 years and passed away in 2010 of the swine flu pandemic. At 11 years I still feel at married to him as the day we said I DO. @nuckinfuts76103 жыл бұрын
@@wandafrmbama5803 agree, love is everlasting and goes beyond the physical realm. Many faiths who've long used these traditional vows also felt it was necessary to revise that last line. When my body was shutting down in 2012 and I was waiting to see specialists, my husband was out enjoying his “extra curricular” activity. I discovered it in January 2013. He moved out a few months later, said he wasn’t spending the rest of his life taking care of me. That was after 15 years and 2 children. In June of that year I was diagnosed with cancer in my spinal cord in my c-spine. October was the surgery and I have been left with nerve damage that affects my mobility. I get flare ups, similarly to someone with MS (one of my specialist tells me) that knock me out for extended periods of time, especially if I get sick. Thank God I have amazing parents who have been able to help my children and I. I LOVE the attitude and sense of humour this couple has 💕 This is what in ‘sickness and in health’ looks like. Wishing you many more years of love, humour and making memories together 🥰🇨🇦

I have MS, my first attack was when I was pregnant with my son, I suddenly lost feeling in my right thumb, by the next morning I was numb on my right side, they first thought I’d had a mini stroke, but after 14 nights in hospital 3 MRIs, a lumber puncture and a heap of blood tests, they diagnosed MS! My son is 18 in November so it’s been that long! I now need a walker for my mobility, I can’t walk without it now due to my poor balance, coordination, strength and vision! My husband passed away 12 years ago and my sister stepped in as my carer, I’m so happy she did, she cracks so many jokes with me all the time! We are never sad, which is the best! This reminded me of my grandparents. My grandma took care of my Pop alone the entire time he had dementia. She refused home health (and I wish she hadn’t - it’s admirable, but everyone deserves help and time for themselves) and did all of his care, 24/7, for about eight years. For about half that time he had no idea who she was, for about a year he couldn’t even sit up or speak. I’ve never seen love the way my grandma loved my Pop, she loved him so deeply his illness wasn’t even a factor. Or maybe it made her love him even more. That’s the kind of love these two have, and it’s such a rare and special kind of love, as cheesy as that might sound it’s true. Thanks for another great one, Chris.

Its nice to hear this! I'm the mom in the situation and it hurts so much sometimes, I don't want my child to see me weak, but its encouraging to see so many people talk about how its not all bad all the time.

@@AnnaRoemantic I understand the pain from it and all of the worrying that comes along with it as well. But having that allows us to realize to live in the moment and be as happy as you can be:) You've got this and you're so strong!!

Hearing their story was amazing. I’m so glad that Chris was able to interview Greg and Nancy (and Rachel!) because their story is so important. There are a lot of interviews with young children and their parents, but I love to hear the stories of older people with disabilities and being able to understand their experiences. Wonderful, excellent interview!!

My grandmother had MS and passed in 2018. My grandfather was her caretaker until nearly the very end and passed in early 2020. Nancy reminds me so much of my grandfather - giving so much love with no questions asked. Making humor out of a very difficult situation and finding joy through it all. I had tears in my eyes the whole video. Love is a beautiful thing.

Thank you so much for including someone with MS. I feel very lucky to have been diagnosed when there are so many more options for slowing/stopping progression and a greater understanding of this disease. At my worst i was in the hospital unable to see or walk or use my hands (takes time but eventually it all came back) so it makes you thankful every day to still be walking and talking and driving and living independantly. And humor is so important, sometimes if you don't find something to laugh about you'll just cry. Again, thank you so much for including this!

What an amazing couple! It's such a joy to see how much Greg and Nancy are in love with each other after all these years and after all they have been through! As a young woman, who is willing to start a family with her partner, I feel so grateful to have seen this family, that is still in love and strong not only in spite of the diagnosis but also because of the diagnosis! A big hug to Greg, Nancy and also Rachel. You all have made my day.💜 Thank you Chris for your work!

What a beautiful blessing that they have so much love for one another. I was diagnosed with MS after we had been married for 20 years. I’m blessed that my husband stuck by my side and we have been married for 37 years. A sense of humor helps us get thru many if life’s challenges. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story.

True love right here. While I am not disabled in this way (I am disabled though), it takes a special person to marry someone and STAY with them if they are disabled. Sadly so many leave their spouse once they become disabled because it's to much for them. They don't think of their spouse sadly. I mean I understand it can be hard of course, but love is stronger than any disability. Also if you don't have laughter, things will be hard. Laughter helps you deal with it. I've gotten to the point where I can even laugh about myself. Live, love, laugh!

I have a KZbin channel, living with MS... not to self promote on somebody else's Channel but it is just starting and I have one maybe two videos there. My main Channel day from Colorado has more videos about it but it's not really am getting any particular direction. Other than my daily video stream as I get my eight-year-old daughter up in the morning for school.
