Having worked at a restaurant my whole life I can definitely say that people quitting mid-shift, not showing up. Doing things that they shouldn't do while there's a rush, etc is so unbelievably accurate. Not to mention the fact that people really do talk to each other like that in the restaurant. Karm was wrong for his tone but I understand his frustrations with everyone.

STRESS! Supposedly, every chefs worst nightmare. This episode is a shinning example of bad leadership on multiple fronts, and you both are correct on who's at fault. At the end of the day if you're supposed to be the leader the buck stops with you, no matter who made the mistakes and ultimately Carmie is the boss and he needed to own up to falling short in preventing the mistakes from happening. At the same time Sydney is supposed to be a leader amongst her peers and should have owned up to her mistakes and put her head down and stuck it out because she (and Marcus) didn't just quit on Carmie, they quit on the rest of their peers and made their jobs that much harder.

Edit* Sydney did not intentionally give it to the food critic She just thought she was getting rid of extra food Marcus acting ridiculously stupid Sydney makes one mistake and finally snaps Carmi sort of understandably angry until he threw that thing back in Sydney's face

I agree with Tasha about Sydney quitting. Carmy has habit of leaving Sydney to deal with stuff on her own and that just doesn't work. He says he expects more from her but I don't think that's fair. He should expect more from everyone if he wants people to do better and for the place to improve as a whole. Sydney can't do it all on her own. Yes she's had more training, but that doesn't mean she doesn't need any help. Even if it was her idea, Carmy needed to be on top of it to make sure everything was good, this is HIS restaurant. Syd has never done To-Gos and Camry knew that but left her to do it on her own. Yes Syd messed up but Carmy did not handle himself well either.

Carm tried to be on top of everything and told her not to serve her dish but she did it anyway. she also quit mid shift and caused another accident by stabbing richie. She deserves 50 percent of the blame along with carm

There was enough blame to go around between Sydney and Carmy. Sydney saying “this isn’t on me” is wildly fu****up! But Carmy could have handled it better. Next season shows us why Carmy may be the way he is lol. Marcus deserved all the smoke Carmy gave him .

To go orders are a whole different thing! They come and they do not stop until people can't order anymore. During COVID I worked at a restaurant and to go was essentially half the business at the time! They were always swamped up there while I had maybe one or two people at the bar
@pabloc88087 ай бұрын
Tasha is right on the sous chef vs head chef thing, when you're the head honcho it ultimately falls on you. It was a new thing, Carmy was supposed to double check. He doesn't need to double check everything Sydney does, but he does need to double check when it's something they've never done before. And he said they were cool on the risotto situation, but he brought it back up and threw it in her face, which is just shitty.

No spoilers on how they end the first season in the next episode, but it is a perfect ending. Haven't heard a single criticism of how they finish off this season. And, though it may seem surprising, Season 2 is even better. And once you get done with S2, Season 3 will be rolling out in full on June 27th, with Season 4 already filmed and on the way in 2025.

Tasha is 100% right. It amazes me how much grace people give Richie and he has done nothing to deserve it . Sydney doesn’t have to be there and is actually trying to improve the place . She makes a few mistakes and everybody wants to throw her away. Richie spiked that punch drugging kids and was dealing drugs… both real crimes but suddenly he ain’t so bad…wow really.

People who blame Sydney are out of their minds. That woman has gone the extra mile for that restaurant more than the owner has. She implemented so many successful things that has organized and turned a profit. So for Carmy to attack her the way that he did always pisses me off. He puts so much on her shoulders. Even in the beginning of the episode he threw Tina's kid on to her on top of all the other responsibilities she had. He let people like Richie slide with his awful behavior but Sydney makes a mistake and its ww3. Even Marcus this season blew a fuse where the restaurant had to be shut down and he never went at him for it this hard. Guess who came up with a solution to keep the restaurant going without power tho... yup Sydney. Yes Sydney made a mistake but she didn't deserve to get bullied by Richie and she sure as hell didn't deserve to be yelled at by Carmy. She deserves way more respect than what she's getting.
@Mukatutu5 ай бұрын
Pretty sure Carmy respects her quite highly but he also noted her impatience, a characteristic brought up by her previous employers. And yes, he did put a little too much on her shoulders but Sydney herself had plenty of blame to take. She simply SHOULDN'T have given that food to a customer, if the excuse was to not waste it, any of the staff would've probably eaten it or she could've given it to someone else, giving it to a customer who could make a review about an unreleased food that is being worked on can start a lot of confusion when that dish is mentioned in reviews and people ask for something that isn't supposed to be on the menu. The review then caused a spike in interest and then she left the preorder menu option open, which caused Carmy to go into nuclear mode. Not only that, people are saying that it's an accident but she literally threatened Richie with a knife then 'accidentally' walked into him with said knife, she STABBED HIM with intention. And finally she leaves during the chaos. You're acting like Carmy attacked ONLY her when he went at everyone, like Marcus, the most obvious example. At the end of the day she did leave the preorder option open and gave the food to the critic so yeah, Carmy is gonna be PISSED about that when they have all those orders due in 8 minutes.

Hey Tasha, I used to work in a kitchen. A sous chef doesn't typically run everything new by a head chef unless their is an expected visit from a critic, to use as an example of expectations to other staff, or build an automated system to test adaptability to pressure and change. For the most part, Tre is 100% right about the trust part of a sous chef position. There's also a lot of yelling.

To be fair, Syd really did drop the ball especially considering everything that Carm is dealing with on the back end. She kept saying that she could handle it so when Carm gave her a chance and implemented what she suggested Syd ran. I don't know if you guys also noticed but this is the first episode where everything Richie said has some truth to it. Considering that Syd is also skilled in the kitchen and general business, it is not wrong for anyone (scary that it's Ritchie) to assume that she has an ulterior motive. Everyone in this episode was out of their typical character with the exception of Carm, Richie, and Ebra. It's still funny seeing the actor that plays Fak because he is a irl chef.

14:46 is the Shepherd been in both positions, I see both sides. But at the end of the day, he shouldn’t have let her pressure him into doing something that they hadn’t worked the kinks out. I love Syd's character but she absolutely indirectly screwed the restaurant this episode, lol. She had the best intentions but god damn, talk about something small snowballing out of control. Also notice as shit's going crazy everyone's cooking and contributing but she's freezing up and passing blame lol. I don't know what the hell I would have done in that situation though, that's so much pressure lol.

I'm currently on ep. 9 and ep. 7 is my favorite so far. Call me toxic, but I love the moments when Carmy explodes lol Fak and Richie are hilarious, but would annoy me if I worked with them 😅 I was living when Syd went off on Richie! Then I was like alright, girl, you going too far with the "you're nothing/useless" spiel. And then she f-ing stabs my mans 😂😂 There was too much chaos in that kitchen. Ntm caked-up Marcus in freaking La La Land, while his coworkers are busting their asses for these pre-orders. Poor sydney gets caught in the crossfires and Carmen comes for her neck! Ngl I understand his level of panic/frustration, but his approach was harsh. Trying to focus on a shitshow while the person who caused said shitshow is trying to hash things out is mad irritating and high-key not the time. However, I know Syd was trying to get across how apologetic she was about the situation. 😭😭 The amount of tension and hilarity that ensued in that one scene was peak television

Sydney is definitely to blame for the things that went wrong in this episode. She's clearly a great chef, but, just like Carmy said (and she demonstrated more than one time), she's super impatient and always wants to act before she's ready. I have a feeling she thinks she knows more than what she actually knows. I think she needs more hands-on restaurant experience to find her footing in the industry, which is why I think working at The Beef is great for her.
@kittykatt76527 ай бұрын
Carmy left New York because his brother left him the restaurant. Sidney as head Sou should not be standing around talking with Richie. There were too many orders of EVERYTHING because she got distracted and left the pre-order menu open. The boss does not stand around and argue with the staff. Carmy pushed her into this position too soon. Sidney is young and has not learned to tune Richie out. I feel like a lot of what the head chef in New York was saying was in Carmy's head. He would have no reason to wish Carmy dead.
