They essentially try to break them up by taking Sumit away. The father tells Sumit to might as well go find a "100 years old" and that there are other "a million times" better than Jenny. Its fair to have concerns about age in your child's relationship, but that type of language is very disrespectful to a potential daughter in law, regardless of age. These people may be old, but they aren't showing much wisdom in their words and conflict resolution.

It’s the same for a lot of traditional cultures. Like being born into royalty, you are born with a responsibility and duty to your family and community. I think it’s a relatively modern idea to raise children to be completely individualistic and self serving. Nothing wrong with either way, it’s just different. I choose the latter but I respect people that are traditional too.
