I just absolutely loved going to ga as a kid in the 80s

Worked there from 81-84 as a teenager. 55 now. Wow.

My uncle, Tim Kuen worked there as well. Landscaping from 84 to 86.

I was there in 1982. Worked the "Whizzer"(Willard's Whizzer) until it malfunctioned one day and crashed. Bad brakes on a train which we reported several times before it came backwards into the loading platform. Glad no one was killed. I then was sent all over the park and worked many rides including driving the train. Boy, that was a fun time...

I wish I could climb in through the screen and go back to that time again.

Same here, it's like California was a normal place then. So fun and normal in those days.

Man, that sunset shot over Marriot's is perfect! I miss those Santa Clara evenings in the summer. Those were the days, blasting KSJO in the parking lot, smoking jay's and getting ready for a bitchen' day at Great America.

Grew up going to this park in the early 80’s. Brings back so many great memories. Thanks for posting .

This was the best time for Great America. I miss the log ride and Yankee Clipper though the clipper didn't get you that wet.

Santa Clara recently got rid of Loggers Run to make room for a water park expansion, the Gurnee one still stands.

Yeah I’m kinda salty the park decided to get rid of another original ride from 1976. They could have taken out White Water Falls instead since that’s smaller and not as exciting. But then again Boomerang Bays layout was an eyesore so I can see why it needed an update. At least Loggers Run still lives on along with Clipper at my home park Six Flags Great America.

American Eagle was never planned for Santa Clara unfortunately.

We lost our Orbit a few years ago in 2016.

To be fair the Orbit just reached the end of its service life. Parts for it were becoming scarce. It was actually down a majority of the 2015 season for maintenance.
