Last time I was this early, AZ’s Floette had just released! Edit: Alright. I just got an idea for the whole friendship-giving thing. What if after you bring up Marshadow to max friendship, you could go to Acerola (or a new NPC), where then she could then teach Marshadow it’s signature move, spectral thief, along with giving you the Z-crystal. That could really drive home the message a bit more!

In order to connect Marshadow to Ho-oh more in the movie I would craft this story. When the Tin Tower burnt down in the Johto Region 3 pokemon died and were resurrected. No one knew that there was a fourth that died one that was not as lucky to be revived. The ghost of that pokemon wandered ameleasly in the wreckage of the tower for years wanting revenge against Ho-oh for not bringing it back to life. Eventually all of these negative emotions that the ghost felt formed a new spiritual body for it it became Marshadow. Still though Marshadow didnt have the power to defeat Ho-oh or even the will to face it yet, its type disadvantage made it feel that way. With it's new body Marshadow left the tower to seek a trainer powerful and manipulatable enough to help it take down Ho-oh, that trainer was none other than Guzma after residing in alola for a while Marshadow discovered Guzma and thought he would be tg e perfect candidate. Marshadow would become the devil on Guzma's shoulder silently persuading him to form team skill and prove his power to the world. After they helped the aether foundation surely they could catch an ultra beast or perhaps even solgaleo or lunala and tg e combined strength of it guzma and Marshadow would be enough to destroy ho-oh unfortunately for marshadow, things didnt go according to plan. After the Nihilego took control of Guzma Marshadowa influence on him lessened and lessened until the voice of Marshadow had left Guzma's ears. Distraught and angry Marshadow would seek out the ultra beasts on it's own and hope to get one on its side. This is where the player first encounters marshadow, hunting for ultra beasts. The first few times the player encounters Marshadow in the wild it fights for a while before running and each time it gets stronger after the first three encounters, guzma show up and informs the character of Marshadows backstory and how it was left alone. Its negative energy fueled him fir some time until the ultra beasts set him free. After this revelation, guzma and the player hunt for marshadow until they find it in an ultra wormhole. The space is unlike any other, completely dark and sad Marshadow stands at the back of the space with a sad look on its face realizing how much of its afterlife was wasted on its thirst fie revenge. It then speaks to the player and it asks to please help it cure its sorrow please to let it battle the player and then join the player's team. And thus the final battle commences. Marshadow fights the player until it is in red HP, it cannot be knocked out. Once it is in red it forfeits and says one last thing to the player, "thank you for showing me that you can battle with positivity and joy, not just sorrow and anger." Marshadow then gets added to the player's pc or party and the quest is over.

That's a very natural inclusion for Marshadow along with learning more about Guzmas backstory on why he is brutal and negative. But instead of Guzma catching (or using) Marshadow, I think Marshadow can control/corrupt Guzma and you battle Guzma while under control. After defeated, Marshadow is eager to battle you as things calm down and will wait for you to challenge him giving you time to save and heal before fighting. Marshadow will allow you capture it as well.

I think you should have worked in Marshadow's copying abilities. Like when your chasing it across Mele'Mele why not have som mini-boss encounters against it where it mimic's people like Kukui, and Hala. Seeing as it's feeding off of Guzma's negative feelings I think it'd be cool for it to use it's mimic abilities to steal the appearences of the people Guzma hate's most.

Only on 10/31, the kanto gym on the nearby island has strange occurrences. You are warned about going in there by the denizens of the gym since all the pokemon are in a battle rage. You quell their emotions with a battle, elite 4 style, then Marshadow appears with 3 top fighters...the Hitmons. After defeating them, you are challenged by Marshadow. You can heal before the hitmon battle, just to give you a fighting chance. If you dont catch him/her, you must wait another year. Date hacking the system will negate the encounter chance, so be careful.

Of course Marshadow makes sense in Alola, I remember something about ghostly warriors, nightmarchers I believe they are called. Marshadow is ghost fighting, makes absolutely sense, the real fun started however when I looked it up.

I've always liked Marshadow. It kind of rides the boundaries, guiding others to a pure and righteous path. It's like a redemption Pokemon, in a way. Like when Rainbow warrior Ash ("I Choose You") was having negative thoughts after losing to the Rival guy. Marshadow came to Ash's aid and guided him back to the light with that weird vision. ... I too find it odd how similar the angered Pokemon are to the Shadow Pokemon. I wonder why that is...

I'm very shocked that GameFreak didn't make Marshadow out as a Nightmarcher (ghosts of Hawaiian warriors that appear after the ceremony of the Hawaiian gods). They arrive in hordes with weapons and war drums. Marshadow's ability to use negative energy to turn regular Pokemon and Team Skull members into shadow-esque, volatile versions and run rampant among the islands. They're also much stronger to battle this time than before. Your task during the post-game is to defeat the shadow hordes through battle or catching them with the last to deal with is Marshadow and Guzma. Title name: And the Night Marches On.

i feel like you're taking too much inspiration from the anime here. the anime does thatever the hell it wants a lot of the times without too much care for the games, and I'm pretty sure marshadow taking control of pokemon was just there to create tension. his info from the games talks about how his thing is learning from copying other people while being in their shadows, I feel like you should have focused on that.

You can add a part where Guzma steals/takes by force Hala's Z-brace and he is able to use Marshadow's Z-move against you. Later he might give you Marshadowium Z crystal and Tapu Koko gives him a fairly earned Z-bracet. Heck, I can even see Tapu Koko joining you to fight Marshadow and Guzma and the game forces you to use Guardian of Alola Against Marshadow.

i really like the concept you've put together here! i think it makes a lot of sense, and ties into the themes of parental abuse and neglect present in the case of how lusamine has treated lily and gladion. that being said, i think it would be even more impactful if you, as the player, come across guzma's father going out of his way to apologize to him. guzma was the victim after all, and it would contrast well against lusamine's lack of real change that we see in the story. it could show that while lusamine may not change, not yet- it's not impossible for a parent to realize the way they've hurt their child and regret it, and make an effort to make amends. it would also be monumental, in my opinion, to see in a game aimed at children to see a parent apologize to their child (similar to the way we see bianca's father eventually apologize to her in black and white, though he seemed less on the abusive side and more on the line of genuine care and love for their child manifesting as overprotective and controlling actions). how i think this could play out in game is one of two ways- either basically the same as you described, where the only difference being that guzma was asked to come and begrudgingly did so, with the player getting to witness his father apologize. another way would be a bit darker, but would also tie into marshadow's theme well, in my opinion. in this idea, guzma would already be at the graveyard near his house when you find him. he's with his father standing over a grave, and through the dialog you witness, you realize that it's of guzma's mother. the father is trying to reconcile now that she has passed, as she had always wished for him to have treated their son better- but despite his father's efforts, guzma is unable to accept the apology. the abuse he endured and the painful death of his mother are too much for him to bear, and he begins to blame his father. in this idea, perhaps guzma was made aware that his mother was unwell, and despite the two of them having a good relationship, his resentment and fear of his father made him refuse to visit. by the time her condition was critical, they weren't able to reach guzma- he was stuck in the ultra wormholes- and his mother passed while the player fought lusamine. seeing lusamine interact with lily made him want to check on his own mother as soon as he got out, and he was given the bad news immediately after. guzma yells at his father, for all of the pain, for all of the fear- and blames him, citing him as the reason that guzma never got to see his mother one last time. he yells that he can not, will not, ever forgive him- and then marshadow appears. marshadow attacks guzma's father, citing him as the source of the negative emotions. the player must rescue guzma's father, and after defeating marshadow, it runs off. the story from there would probably have similarities to what you put here, like guzma seeing marshadow's strength and setting off to capture it. when you finally fight guzma, with a newly captured marshadow in his party, he laments that he thought maybe you were on his side, but that even you have sided with his father. after the player defeats guzma, he talks to the player, saying that maybe keeping all of that negativity and hurt as a motivating force wasn't just bad for him, but the people around him as well. he looks at the town around him, all of the confused and scared people and pokemon, and he decides that he doesn't want to hurt anymore. he doesn't want his pain, anger and fear to make others hurt, angry and afraid. he doesn't want to continue the cycle of abuse anymore. but....he doesn't feel worthy of forgiveness. he feels as though he's not just hurt the town and himself, but his mother's memory as well, by continuing to act this way. he cites his mother's kind nature, and the way she would comfort him, and wonders aloud why he couldn't have been more like her. that she was right all along, and how badly he regrets letting his resentment and fear keep him from saying goodbye. the player leads him back to his childhood home, and it is then that he reconciles with his father. he apologizes, and his father says there's no need, because as a parent, it was his responsibility to know better. he talks of the way his own father treated him, and how it was no excuse to treat guzma the same way. they talk fondly of guzma's mother, and promise to be close and kind to one another, for her. that, while maybe she never got to see it happen in her lifetime, and they both regret that deeply- maybe, just maybe, she can smile at them from the other side. and then the player gets to go catch a cool legendary and actually feel something about it. :D

Marshadow is one of my FAVORITE Mythical Pokémon, and honestly it is quite disappointing how much it seems like a lot of these Mythical Pokémon go underutilized in the games! Marshadow is my favorite Pokemon, and while watching this I was awestruck by what you came up with for this. Using Guzma's probable backstory, expanding on the abilities shown in ICY, working it into a postgame event... Sure, I personally don't like making Marshadow antagonistic even if it isn't their own intention (my personal theory for ICY's climax is that the negativity in the wing because of Cross ended up corrupting my shadow boi), but this is definitely an angle I NEVER considered and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! My personal theory for Marshadow, actually, is that they have a special connection with Z-moves. I've actually found a lot of evidence for my theory, and even though we know Necrozma is involved with Z-moves (specifically as the material of Z-crystals), I tend to think of Marshadow as the "technician" behind harnessing that power, if you will. It's pokedex entries explaining how it copies other's abilities and actions and becomes even stronger/better at them than the original fits the concept extremely well--not to mention the imegary in their SIGNATURE Z-move (and in ICY not even requiring a Z-CRYSTAL or even a TRAINER to be able to preform it).

YES THANK YOU! Marshadow is my fave mythical and the backstory is kinda dissiponiting but this one is better Pokemon: Poipole Story: Just before you challenge Hau you see Acarola running up twords both of you telling you about a giant tear in the sky, both of you re-act to this by running out if the league and looking in the sky seeing a group of purple, magenta, and a glowing neon blue flowating under the rip. You soon meet Lilie along the path with her mother Lusamien and her brother Gladion while telling you the ultra beast names you manage to get through the croud of people and see the Ultra Recon Squad trying to keep the ultra beast and people under control you, Hau, and Lilie talk to the ultra recon squad saying that you'll take care of the Ultra Beast while Lusamien and Gladeon help with the people. You manage to deafeat all but three Poipole and one Naganeedle as Hau and Lilie defaets them before you get the chance to catch one but then you see something fly off but you don't think much about it .So later in the game when you become Champion you then explore the lab under Ayther Paradise you come across a knocked out Poipole that you heal with a oran berry and it gets so scared it flys away later when you get back to your house before you come to the street you hear your mom screaming, you run up to her aking what happend andshe showed you a pink and blue drawing of a oran berry so you walk inside to see a bucket filed with water and the Poipole sleeping on the couch you bring the bucket to your mom and then run back inside and wait for the POipole to wake up, but you end up falling asleep in the processes you wake up on the couch with Poipole handing you a oran berry then when you wake up and eat it the Poipole pokes one of your eamty pokeballs and you end up catching it.

Something that's always bothered me about Marshadow is that the dex, and to an extent the movie (though not as much), throws out it's origins entirely. Marshadow is based on the huaka'i pō, or Nightmarchers, who are said to be the spirits of Hawaiian warriors, yet Marshadow is supposedly "craven and cowering". I understand that it's more warrior traits were sidelined for it's emotion reading, but isn't "cowering" going a bit to far?

I think it should be a shadow Salamence instead of Kommo-o, simply because Bagon, and actually Salamence through sos, can be found on Melemele, while Jangmo-o is found on Poni. That was the only flaw in the extra post game this would be.

Great video as always. To be honest, I never read anything when I play any of the pokemon games so I truly don't know any of the story going on in any of the games. I just like to collect the little beasties.

I like how you did it, but I feel like it should be the one mythical pokemon you shouldn't get, but instead let Guzma keep it and shower it with love. Seeing as it was born from his shadow in this theory it is a part of him. So maybe over time he will give it to you, but only once he's purified himself and marshadow from the negativity.

Hey Toby. This might sound weird, but can you fix Arceus? I know he's the creator of the pokemon world, but we've only been able to get him from mystery gifts and from hacking the game. I know there's that event in HG/SS, but that doesn't really add anything to the story of Arceus and it seems like it adds to Cynthia instead of Arceus. Maybe it could also involve the Azure flute, since we were never legitimately given that
