Pistol Pete was a U.S. Deputy Marshal in the Old West. He was said to have the fastest draw with a point shoot using either hand. Frank was someone who enjoyed talking with people and always took the time to tell his stories, show his quick draw or write return mail to fans from all over the world.

Love Frank Eatons story. Never been to the grave but when I was at OSU 75 to 78, his house was located north of town. It had a sign back then. Now it’s moved across the road in the pioneer park they have developed.Heading up there next week. Also going to check out graveyard at nearby Ingalls. Thanks

So, another funny/cool story about some of my ancestors - you're probably getting tired of these. My Grandmother's second husband was Clarence Goodnight (Who was related to the Loving/Goodnight Goodnights of Lonesome Dove lore, but that's another story), So, Clarence's father Rollo was a deputy of Frank's and very close friends. They rode together in the 89er parade (in Guthrie) every year. The year Frank died, Rollo Goodnight saddled up Frank's horse and walked it through the parade in his honor. Clarence, along with a lot of my relatives, is buried in the cemetery at intersection of Hwy 74 & 51 by Marshall OK. My Uncle tells some other stories about Frank and Mr. Goodnight. He turned 80 last week. If you google Eaton and Goodnight, there's a photo of them - Frank Eaton and Rollo Goodnight. The photo you have on the thumbnail actually has Rollo next to him.
@RhettyforHistory
@RhettyforHistory 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not tired of the stories and I appreciate you sharing them. That is neat to hear the connection of Goodnight and Eaton. I know there have been a lot of people trying to discredit Eaton so we really need those stories to come forward. I like that he did the missing man going thru the parade. It does sound like they were great friends. I have been in Marshall before so I probably went right passed his grave and didn't realize it. Thank you for watching and sharing his story.

I'll be darned. I didn't know that mascot was based on an actual person. Stinks that all of his stuff was stolen. The 1950s were a really interesting time for people like this. They actually lived through the end of the old west and saw the biggest changes in society as television and airline travel and such came along. It's too bad film was so expensive back then. It would have been incredible to get all of his stories on film.

Too, too trippy. For the first five years of my life (1942 to 1947), I lived in the "Eaton Hotel" (of Carrie Nation fame) in Wichita, Kansas. Was it (the Hotel) named after this gentleman? As far as I know, it is still there (on Douglas Avenue in Wichita). Thanks a lot for this info; I knew, of course, of Wyatt, et al, but had never heard of Eaton. What a hoot; gives me a chuckle. He does look like him. I always thought Willie Nelson because of the long braids and thin build.

Really good show on Pistol Pete. But is Rhetty a made up name for you that refers to the dumb fictional man Rhet Butler? I hate that movie, and men I've known didn't like it either.
