Hey look, someone knows how to make a proper comparison video using a looper! Awesome work! Thanks for the great sampling comparison.

Dartheomus I agree. Really terrific video.

Awesome video man, very helpful i like how you showed comparisons between the different capacitors. its a great idea putting a toggle switch in, it adds more versatility to dsl which can be too bright sometimes.

Absolutely, and the mod isn't even that difficult. Anyone who is a little familiar with a soldering iron can do it :) Thanks for watching !

Great video and examples! I am going to do the switchable 470 / 100 cap on mine to have different options. Thanks!

Great video. I have an HR, and love the classic channel, but it could use some tweaking on the Hi gain channel. It is almost like it gets too much OD when barely turning up the gain on that side. And, maybe it is too much treble in the gain. I'm glad to know that the mod leaves the classic side alone, because it is a fantastic Plexi sound. I remember looking at a Dumble video one time that had what looked like adjustable resistors or caps, like you would adjust with a small screw driver. I'm going to have to search a little for something like that, as you could dial in a sound before putting the thing back together. -Might be an option. Great video.

I want a Marshall DSL. Thanks for explaining how it evolved from the JCM series. Good info. ;)

Terrific comparison video. Really appreciate all of the extra effort you put in

Sounds like it also removes some of the gain

Best video EVER on this mod... Simple and to the point... Did you notice a difference between the Green channel and the red after doing the cut mod?
@elliottwist14745 жыл бұрын
Thank you ! Very helpful.

Thank you so much for this video. I decided to cut c19 and thank God I left enough leg on it to solder it back. Because it sounded horrible. Haven't tried putting another cap on it, but I would do that before just cutting it and leaving it. I'm sure there has to be something that sounds better. But right now I'm loving it just the way it is stock..

The bright cap on a tube amp is not mandatory. It's just useful if you play at low volumes!

THANK YOU for this demonstration. Definitely not doing the mod, it appears to remove alotta gain. 1:40 these issues you speak of were only on pre 2004 JCM 2000's

What would be the cap to mod on Marshall DSL 401 England?

Thank you!! This by far the best,most thought out video on the cap mod.showing the differences on volume on the mod was very helpful. I play with a tremendous amount of false harmonics and wonder if the mods affect the ability to get the squeals from pick thumb content. Any thoughts?
@guitargas18945 жыл бұрын
Hmm if you don't play at really low bedroom volume I don't think it should have much affect on it

Very nice. I did mine a few months ago and replaced with a 100pf. I like it but Im thinking a of going higher. Which one do you prefer?

my guitars have singlecoils. the amplifier has good low end or the sound will be very thin and excessively bright? I think that the modification that you have made in the amplifier is obligatory and should have come from the factory. thanks for making the video and sharing such good information

Amp works just fine with single coils, especially after the mod !

Is the mod also good or able to be done on the 100HR?
@MH1000a6 жыл бұрын
Ok you said you have to crank them to sound good. I have that amp and play through 1960a cab, up past 5 on the volume it sounds great to my ears, you play at 2 on the volume knob in this video. How does the 100 pf cap mode sound at band volume ? is it noticeable up past 5 or 6 ?
@boengelen37146 жыл бұрын
The difference is less but stil noticeble imo, I liked the "in between" the best at volume 4 (my live volume)

Hi, I have done the same mod, however I am now picking up noise which wasn't there before. Did you have any issues with this when fitting the switch?
@guitargas18945 жыл бұрын
No, I don't have any noise at all... Did you check all your solder connections?

Interesting to experiment with the cap mod but think I'll stay away from it. The stock sounded more like a Marshall to me. Don't get me wrong, not being hateful lol... Thanks for posting what you did.

I have kind of a non-related question. Does anyone know which mode (pentode or triode) the 100h should be in when biasing? I'm getting different tube mv readings in both. Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.

Another Virgo Asshole I think I read somewhere to have it in full mode

The DSLs (at least the old ones, don't know the new ones) get way too much hate. For some reason it's very popular to hate them in the gear nerd community. If you crank them, they can sound almost identical to a 2203. People need to get their heads out of their asses and actually listen instead of following some weird herd mentality. And also, the old JCM 2000 DSLs are very, very durable. I've had mine for about 10 years (it was built in 2004) and I've never even had to change the tubes.

I have a Dsl50 from 2000, it's the best amp I have ever owned. The tone of cranked 50w, power tubes over driving is amazing. Just my 2 cents
@M8D4fun4 жыл бұрын
not bad for some pickups, but you yo'ure running way too small cab for this amp
@melvinsfan6 жыл бұрын
Your tone controls already do the same thing. Amp and guitar.
@Gk2003m6 жыл бұрын
Not really. When the Red channel is on with the 470pf cap in place, it does not respond well to your guitar’s tone control. Take out the cap and turn down the bass, and now the channel responds to the guitar’s tone knobs.
