The modern amps have a more defined low end indeed. It seemed to have started with the dual rec but as with the dual rec, if you dial it in for midrange and sizzle up top they respond to that type of setup quite well. Just my opinion.

Agreed, I my opinion Marshalls really need to be pushed hard to get a good tone. A lot of other amplifier manufacturers manage to get decent tone at bedroom volume, but I feel like every time I've tried a Marshall at bedroom volume, it just sound tinny and nasally.

I grew up with the early versions of Marshall’s and to be honest, they’re the standard by which all great amps are measured!!! They simply kick ass!!! I also went thru a phase where I Had To try everything else-and I’m glad I did-in fact, I still enjoy plugging into different amps. BUT the minute I plug back into a Marshall, my ears can hearing it, my playing tightens up, then once I get that inevitable kick in chest, I feel like I’m home!! Almost like being a kid all over again🎶✊🏼

The JCM800 is the perfect distortion amp for me. Anything from punk to metal, it just works. The Greenbacks are a nice speaker to pair it with, but as you noticed the lack of low end, some folks like the G12-65's which bring back some of that low end, or the G12M-65's (Creambacks) for some more low end than a Greenback but with a little more high end than the G12-65's.

Back in 2017 with my former band we used to rehearse in a studio where it had every amp you can think of. The first time we rehearsed there i entered one of the rooms and in one of the corners was a JCM800 with an orange cab with V30s. This was the meanest and craziest combo I've ever played to this day. Raw precise and chuggy. I will never forget it. The sound was amazing

I’m sure these push a little more than my higher watt 30’s, just by wattage difference alone. I’m also glad you mentioned how you time align your mics. Is old school engineers gnash our teeth over projects that come to our desk that aren’t time aligned and then told why it’s not important to do so. Phase is important. You know this and I’m glad you passed this on to your viewers. Great vid as always. Love your stuff, Ola. Metal.🤘🏻

The great thing about the Marshall tone is that it sounds great for Rhythm and Lead as well without changes the settings. Its chunky but full in the mids as well. On the deadweld audio duality pedal, when it comes to the blue side, you need to not push the volume past 12:30 MAX. If you push it past that, it overloads the circuit and causes it to fart and fall apart. Only reason I'm bringing it up is because I absolutely love that pedal, and the blue side is incredible for shaping metal amps, so I don't want anyone to hear it and go "thats awful why would anyone use that." Honestly it is an incredible boost, and deserves your attention :) and the built in noise gate is killer!!!

The JCM has classic tone and "cutting" as you can hear. The drawback is that there isn't enough bottom and tightness for it. Like Ola commented near the end...an EQ or something in the loop to boost the bottom, but reall, the only thing the JCM800 needs (besides tweaking to taste), is add a depth/punch resonance knob and it's all set!

The bottom from Marshalls come in at volume as they are voiced to be stadium amps. A 4x12 with a Marshall on 10 will have way more natural low end resonance from sheer volume than people realize even with the bass on 0. Not to mention once the bass guitar is added any extra low end will be lost in a mix. That's why you always hear Marshalls sound best cranked. They are designed that way. Depth/punch knobs simulate what volume does naturally which is a useful feature today, but wasn't something those bands needed back then as they played them near 10.

That's a dreamy rig...I wish I still had my jcm 800, but I have the friedman be so I'm good....I love vintage 30s, but there is something about a greenback 4 x 12...my friend has an old one...it's magical....I do love the friedman cab too with half greenbacks and half v 30s...also magical....

It really is the gold standard for me. Every time you fire it up, it sounds so perfectly saturated for rock riffing. You don't need more than 50 watts violently shoved through some greenbacks.

One time I plugged an old Les Paul with dirty strings into a JCM 800 4x12 and it was the heaviest thing I ever heard

the jcm 800 is my all time fave amp..I had a 2204 that was an absolute beast that I will forever regret getting rid of..nice demo btw

It's not the same amp at all. This is not an "all tube amp" The 2205 uses diode clipping for its main distortion stage and it sounds nothing like the 2204 that's using all tubes.

@@johanhansson4574 yeah, I know..I've never personally owned a 2205, but one of my main guitar heros, Michael Schenker did, and I loved his tone..I genuinely love the tone that Ola is getting in this video too, so I really do like pretty much any jcm800, but yeah, that 2204 I had was special..it really roared

Every time you’ve ever plugged into a Marshall, I’ve always thought that it suits your playing style/music. They embody a certain chime/ring that your riffs particularly let shine.
