That's a cool piece of kit, especially if you want that Marshall sound for a cheap price. It definitely sounded very AC/DC, which is I guess what they're looking for. I personally wouldn't use it because I don't need it, I've got a Marshall Code and it has a sound similar to this. It has a JCM800 that's very 80's Heavy Metal which I use all the time, and for my own solo project. Does everything I want it to 😁😁🤘🏻🤘🏻

Would be cool to hear it boosted with an SD1 or TS9, actually sounds pretty good for what it is

My friedman IRX nails it. But costs 5 times that

Too much gain for a real JCM-800 😉 Still a usable sound that'll fit in a mix. This was Marshall's attempt at the Sansamp DI market iirc. I think companies like Line 6 should look at modelling these, or Marshall look at making an updated version given the market for modellers.

Thanks for the info. Like I said in the video I'm not super familiar with the jcm800 so couldn't totally say how accurate it is. I think it sounds great regardless and I totally agree they should do an undated one now. Would definitely do great in the modelling sort of market like you say

@FI4ppers: I think it depends on the model JCM800. My '89 model 4210 has plenty of gain. In the setup I use, I plug my guitar in a Boss GE-7 Equalizer and use the output level to boost, and/or boost or cut certain frequencies to shape the tone of my guitar.

@@EltoV Yeah maybe they upgraded it after a year or so. The one Metallica used in the first record also had to be boosted with a maxed tubescreamer.

@@Fl4ppers You’re right. I remember watching their DVD “Live Shit,Binge & Purge” which is a documentary about the making of the Black Album) You can watch it on KZbin. Metallica mostly used a JCM 800 as their main amp but between ’88 and 2000 they experimented with different kinds of Mesa Boogies like the IIC+, Mark III and Mark IV and rectifiers and at that time all the new goodies. In their DVD previously mentioned, they even used them in a mix. There is a part halfway through the documentary, creating the rhythm sound of Sad But True by plugging a JCM800 preamp into a Mesa Boogie power stage(or vice versa, I don’t clearly remember) The was THE Ultimate guitar tone at that time :-) It’s a fact that the JCM 800 sill is an icon.

@@EltoV Its a similar story with Bon Jovi and the Slippery era. Everyone thinks it Soldano but iirc that came later.

Hi there, first of all great and a very spot on honest review! I’ve got a Marshall JCM800 50W 1X12’ combo. To be more specific the 4210 model made in 1998. For rehearsals I used it in its original state but for live performances I always hooked it up to a 4X12 cab. Killer sounds from the ’80s and ’90s hehe.. :-) I have to say that this pedal simulates the real thing very well! It even got some identical features found on mine. The only thing that’s missing are the raw characteristics of the EL-34’s in the end stage roaring but in my opinion a minor issue. The cab simulator does its job well and of all DSPs I’ve heard and tried out, you can’t go wrong with this pedal in my humble opinion. edit: Oh yeah one more thing I forgot to mention: I miss the reverb on the pedal like on the real amp. It’s a spring reverb and it makes it sound much more massive. Cheers!

For a direct device that was made 30 years ago it sounds great. Way ahead of its time though i remember at the time they was not popular at all

Completely agree. Like I said in the video. I think they didn't catch on just because they were a bit out of the ordinary then. I think an updated version would do rly well today with all the modelling and stuff that we're used to now
