I just bought one of these. It's a nice sounding practice amp with aggressive crunch and a usably sweet clean. However forget about gigging with it. The volume output is really pretty limited especially on clean.

OWG Sure you can mic any amp, but if you're gigging in a place with a bad PA or no PA that's no solution. Besides, when you listen to a PA you get the additional sonic profile of the PA system which might not be to your liking There are practice amps that you can play small gigs with and others that you can't. This is one of the latter.

What is the minimum you would suggest for a Marshall gigging amp? This would be for small venues ofc, more like a bar or something.

Allmywhat The 5 watt tube model (Class 5 and its replacement) is probably not loud enough. The Code 50 is only $249 and reviewers say it's loud enough for small gigs. Don't know how reliable it would be at that price. The DSL40CST would be great but it's $699. Some bands have their own PA system so you could use the Class 5. There are a lot of used ones on eBay or used to be but the price is climbing!

Looking forward to getting mine that’s on the way! I play in a punkish rock band. I’m not concerned about effects, I won’t use them. Just interested in banging out Sex Pistols style power chords. I’m sure it will do the job and only weighs 24 pounds. That is a very important feature to me!

The treble on this amp hurts. You have to have it at 0 to get any kind of good tone. the mg 15 watt sounds way better tbh

I got a DSL 20 . I’m looking into the m15 or 30 . What would you suggest . Reason is for lower volume and to some what preserve the dsl. Sometimes you just want to turn it on for 20 n stop . You temp to avoid small session to not turn on and off frequently

I still have this amp, the fx are cool yeah but if ur a tone geek this won’t cut it...I replaced this with a orange crush 35rt and could not be happier, this amp sounds 2 - dimensional in comparison to the orange crush. Hate to shit on this amp but damn man I have never been thrilled with it, and trying switch from orange - to Marshall mid session I can really tell a difference

That is probably down to the speaker put in a celestion vintage 30 and I bet it sounds amazing, I'm debating modifying my MG30CFX with a celestion speaker of some sort

Oh yeah. Mix that with a Seymour Duncan pickup booster and you can get a really strong gain without being too muddy. Sound great with Master and No Leaf Clover

murat merhaba, gitarım epiphone sg pro ve amfim orange crush 20rt, dist için boss ds-2 kullanıyorum (grunge tonları için çok güzel) ancak tonlar cidden yetersiz gelmeye başladı özellikle heavy metalde, klasik rock çalarken de sololar kulağımı tırmalıyor amfinin driveını kullanmama rağmen. şimdi gidip pedallerle olayı halletmeyi düşündüm ama amfiyi değiştirmek daha mantıklı geldi, bu alet ihtiyacımı karşılayacak mıdır sence ? ev dışında shaft gibi küçük yerlerde çalıyorum. yoksa gitarımın manyetiklerini değiştirsem sorun çözülür mü kararsızım, manyetikler 150 lira falan çünkü. seymour duncan alnico ya da dimarzio paf pro düşünüyorum

A solid state amp is an amp that doesn't use tubes. Usually tube amps are easier to break but sound more warmer, even though nowadays some solid state amps can very well recreate the sound of tubes. Oh and solid state amps are way cheaper than tube amps.

duh.. gain is your input level, so 0 will obviously mean zero signal. gain =/= distortion

For giggles I attached a Ibanez Tube screamer peddle to it and it was incredible!!! By itself the amp is more than loud enough for a 150 to 200 person bar. If your miked to the soundboard you don't even have to stretch the volume.

Harry Matthews line 6 spiders are not really considered great amps, marshal makes some of the best out there. line 6 spiders are mostly for thrashy metal. but if you want more options a marshal anywhere from 200 to 500 dollars is your best bet

The thought that hit me is... I was impressed that it sounded really good and then realized is he playing a $200 guitar or a $2,000 guitar... Because that right there could be a massive difference...also brand... I have owned Ibanez Gios ($150) that sounded way better then mid level Jacksons twice the price so yeah lol...
