The most difficult part about setting up a bike is being able to tell what is wrong when you ride it. Making changes is easy but no point if you cant tell what needs changed. The ride height has a huge effect on steering stability, soft sand needs the rear lower to increase the head angle and keep the front from running out of trail, raising the rear makes it slide speedway style and steer quickly between trees.

I wish I have a bike like that!!!

@ben1996ful you may be getting your dimension from a different spot as the OP or your sub frame may be tweeked. if the sag number dont match or are not within spec,a higher rate spring may be needed

If you are a weekend rider, not traveling the pro-circuits, suspension just doesn't mean what it does to to you and me as it does to the pros. I didn't say anything about being comfortable. And anyway, you are basically agreeing with me. I also said it's not about always going fast. I for one, have learned something from this video. I have 7 bikes in my garage right now, and I have been riding for 30 years. Maybe you knew all of this. But like I said before, we all got on this site for a reason.

@ben1996ful i will give you my opinion on that,i have nearly zero exp with dirt bikes but have worked on my sport bikes. no putting more preload on the spring will not make that longer IF the bike is on the center stand BC the shock is already stretched to the max as the rear wheel SHOULD not be touching the floor.

the gear adds weight, which can effect the sag.

is the first measurement with the stand or the bike sitting with out the stand?? another video on here they did it without?
@bestsnowboarderuknow16 жыл бұрын
how would it make such a big difference if you just adjusted your rear suspension a little. See, I like my front suspension, but i feel like im always bottoming out on the rear one.
@turtlemann1412 жыл бұрын
you should adjust it all so that it suits you. the spring adjusters adjust the ride height pre-load. the spring it self adjust the spring rate (the amount of fore applied per inch of spring compression). keep the rebound stiff enough that the bike doesn't like to bounce back up and loose enough that you don't keep the wheel in the air over bumps. the low speed should be stiffer than the high speed so that when you hit a bump it absorbs it. mototips.com

hey can you help me set my ride height? im about 6 foot 2 and 160 pounds. i ride a 03 cr250 2 stroke. how many mm from the axel to the fender should it be? and should i just adjust the spring or should i adjust the rebound, high speed comp or low speed comp?
@XVIIsionsProductions13 жыл бұрын
@ghat13 you get the suspension on your bike dialed yet?
@kennyw49712 жыл бұрын
What about the free sag? You could have any spring rate on there and set the ride hight but still not be set up properly. I feel like this video will confuse more people than it will help. Sorry Marshall. :(
@cdagorman14 жыл бұрын
is this the same as setting the sag
@gsbacorn14 жыл бұрын
Hey, let's just ride! Are you the best one on this, the "know-it-all"! I've been riding since 1980! Unless you are racing the Pro Circuits, suspension is not going to slow you down that much. The last time I checked, KidBever wasn't racing with Travis Pastrana, Ricky Carmichael, Jeff Ward, Rick Johnson, and Bob "The Hurricane" Hanna! That goes back several decades. You watched this video for a reason, and I bet it wasn't just slam people. Maybe you didn't know how to adjust your suspension!
@norcalmx40816 жыл бұрын
measuring your race sag is not going to fuck anything up. what will fuck up your bike is changing the springs in your shock and not your forks (unless you know your forks are tuned perfectly for you).

You're flaming me for a response that's 6 months old?? Nice. Do you have any idea what I was responding to in the first place? RidesMX was a douche bag, flaming the rider for being in his gear while working in the shop. I can drop names too. I know all about Bubba, Justin Weeks (read up on him, he could use the help) and Barcia. Oldies too: Stanton, Ward, and both Bailey's. But here's a couple guys you forgot to mention in your history lesson: DeCoster, MS, and Torsten Hallman... Go figure.

@paintballing03 your way too big for that big, get a 125 AT LEAST. I am 5' 11" and on a 250f I am gettin ready for a 450 very soon because I am simply too big. lol.

Why aren't all your fellow Americans flaming you for using the metric system in your measurements?
@gsbacorn14 жыл бұрын
You seem to take stuff pretty personal, let's just ride!!! Sorry to offend you. My point was that you got on this site to learn something, or maybe brush up, maybe something you forgot or don't know? I'm not slamming anyone. don't forget, there was the day when you didn't know what you do now, right?
@KidBever15 жыл бұрын
Hey RidesMX: Are 12 years old? Clearly you don't ride mx as your name implies... If you did you'd know that in order to properly set ride height/sag you NEED to be in race-ready gear. He should actually have his helmet on too. Think before you chastise someone, or you'll end up looking like a fool yourself. Then again, if the shoe fits...

I hope you guys feel proud about destroying how people's bikes control. Suspension(if not equal) will destroy how your bike handles, and will make your bike very hard to maneuver. In this video, you only set one suspension on the bike, clearly all the suspensions are not equal because you tampered only with one. There are 11 total suspensions you must changed and you have clearly not done this. That bike now is completely useless.
