One thing that I particularly love about Nick Bowcott demos is that he uses reasonably affordable guitars and amps (Epiphone/Gibson Tribute LP's, Katana amps) which is refreshing. Considering what is available at Sweetwater, I appreciate him not grabbing a $3000 guitar for his demos. This pedal sounds great btw 🤘

Not sure if I would call even a Gibson tribute affordable…..
@dannyllerenatv8635 Жыл бұрын
@@vmx23 Eh, not really affordable, but more "realistic" is a better way to put it. At least for a Gibson.

Back in '92 watched a band play in a small local club. I was so amazed by the guitarist's tone that I had to ask him what was he using. It was a Gov'nor. I found one in a Pawn shop for $80.00. I still use it.when I need a killer sound.

I have been playing through Marshall amps since the early 70s and I am blown away by these pedals. In my opinion, these are must have pedals I especially like the blues breaker, but they are all exceptional.

The Intro is a recording of at least three different guitar tracks. They go out of their way to make these pedals sound so good, then when you buy one it sound nothing like the demo.

Obviously you're going to hear the best recording possible. With that said, the pedal being ran into the fx return with the presence on the amp dimed gives you the sound. Running it in the front is going to color the sound unless you have an extremely flat, clean, amp.

Smart choice using a Gibson Les Paul Tribute. Unless you have a lot of money, it is the only Les Paul you need. Glad to see this pedal is being reissued.

I'm a MIAB junky and this pedal slaps. Probably doesn't do high-gain metal on its own, but it's got a tone of clarity, grind, and growl. Does lower gains stuff well too. Love it!

I was under the impression these were going to retail for around $150-$170 . $250 is price gouging . I bought my OG for $200 in 2018 and that was my limit . These gear manufacturers know that once the Baby Boomers are out of the market , Gen X and the Millennials and Zoomers are not going to buy physical gear . This is why a really good Marshall amp head is $2500+ . Here in 10 years the used market is going to be FLOODED with gear , 80% of it OD pedals LOL

Thanks Nick great demo. Just a question (or to anyone who knows from experience)... while the Guv and Drivemaster have the exact same circuits, less loop, some reviewers have stated that the Drivemaster has a touch more gain? And maybe compression too? ...can anyone who has played both side by side confirm this? Or is it just the slight variation that can come from unit to unit, even in the same model?

What amp and how did you set it up to work with the Gov'nor? Clean or edge of distortion?

I Loved this review. I owned an original, English made unit a few years back, must have had a bad unit because it didn't sound as great as the one in this demo. I'm going to order one of the reissues. I once read that a Guv'nor with JCM800 is basically the same as a Marshall Jubilee.

The amp in a box sales pitch did not work on me, so I never got one, which was a mistake when I realized it was key to the Gary Moore tone I was chasing. Duh me huh. I thought it was simply a Valvestate preamp in pedal format, so looked down my nose at it because I had a JMP-1 valve preamp. They are a little pricey. I am made in Milton Keynes too. That does not make me more expensive lol. P.S. Pricey compared to your average dirt box. But I figure there has to be some money in it to make the hassle of doing the reissue worth it I guess.

There was also a better version imo of the Guvnor that had a sweepable mids and a smaller footprint. Soundwise - these sound a touch more scooped up than I remember them.

So Marshall have re-issued this good old pedal without making any improvements to it. No new features, still not true bypass, still too big and still noisy. Marshall continue to do the same as Fender and Vox. Just wrap a new marketing promotion around re-issue of the same, same old. There are other companies who make significant improvements to their products when they make a re-issue. But Marshall, Fender and Vox never do. They're usually worse. :)
@tommclellan2882 Жыл бұрын
think you are missing the point here , the demand for these has been evident for a long time , why change anything if this is what the customers are after ? Its a reissue , has tone exactly the same as original or its not !
