The Marshall TSL60 doesn't get a lot of love... but I thought I would see if I could get it to sound solid in a mix. Success?

These things are so slept on, all shall perish recorded their first 2 albums with them and used them live for years , their live tone was as disgustingly brutal yet tight and harmonically rich as any I’ve ever heard

People often equate price with value... In the context of a mix you can make most amps sound similar. The TSL stuff is awesome for the money.

METAL TONE Use a distortion pedal into the front input. Turn up the gain on the clean channel until notes go from thin to full; don't overdo it. The same can be done with the dirty channel on the amp but the gain wont need to be set as high for there is more gain already in OD1 channel. OD2 is just fizz. Dont fuck with it.

Been running the TSL for years. Great sounding amp way better than the JVM garbage since the JVM uses COSM modeling to get the different gain stages and the TSL does not so you have the natural gain structure. I run a stereo rig main amp is a Lee Jacksons modded 1970 JMP and the back up amp is the TSL. I run a little delay of the TSL and its never once let me down.

JVMs are all tube. COSM modelling only in Boss/Roland products?

It also does a lot of other Genres like Southern Rock Tones. Skynyrd, Allman Bros. Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, Tucker, etc...Blues, Hard Rock, and so so much more . KISS and Yngwie Agree with Marshall. I think if you tweak the amp,and EQ it right, you can a LOT of different tones from this TSL 60

I would love a clean tone comparison between the TSL60 and TSL100 some people love the clean some people hate it.

Unfortunately, I sold the TSL60 and grabbed a JCM800 so I can't do a clean channel demo

How would anyone think this is garbage? Cheap? Weird. I've had mine in my studio for 5 years and it's been a verstital and trustworth piece of gear. Great sounds.

These amps had reliability issues unfortunately which led to a bit of a bad reputation. If you were one of the lucky ones that got a good one though, it was a great amp for the money.

I've had to replace both transformers in mine. Shit happens. My only problem with it now (and before the transformer swap) is, it's the quietest 60 watt amp on the planet. I have 25 watt amps that are MUCH louder. In a full band context with a crushing drummer, I have to rum the volume almost at maximum..... which is WAY higher than any other amp I've ever owned.

Oh weird. I have heard from a tech locally that a lot of transformers were replaced in these amps, that could have been fixed. A big problem was that they weren't screwed down properly... so they would vibrate and hum and eventually fail. Just needed to be tightened down. I have never had issues with mine being quiet either.

@@gentlewolf1279 .... I recently bought a DSL100, and I actually run that amp with just two tubes, knocking it down to 50 watts, and its way louder than my TSL 60, which is supposed to be running at 60 watts. I had my tech try and figure it out, and he says it's working properly. He also says it's loud, but in comparison, I say it's not...... and I've also read comments from other TSL60 owners that say their amps aren't very loud either. Maybe they aren't all the same.

@@frankrandolph1507 part of it may be the transformer size/power. I had a Peavey Windsor 100 and it was easily the quietest 100 watt tube amp I have ever played. Got another one years later and it was the same issue with that one as well. Turns out this is a common theme with them due to the incredibly under-powered transformers in the amp. For comparison, my Peavey Supreme is easily twice as loud as the Windsor and the two glaring differences are it is solid state and it has a HUGE output transformer.

I wonder how much different it would sound going through a real cab?

The IR I used is an IR of my Mesa 4x12. It sounds essentially identical.

It sounds great!! Whatvare people complaining about??

Too many people think because it’s not super expensive, it can’t be good. I think it does pretty well. Only issue I’ve heard about is some reliability with some of the models.

Is not the amp what is garbage but what you play with it and how you dialed it in
@gentlewolf12795 ай бұрын
Haha. I never said it was garbage. That is a common sentiment for this amp due to reliability issues. I thought it was a solid cheap amp.
