Peter, I play live twice a week to around 500+, and I also sing. I've used Tube amps mic'd for years, but we are now going with IEM's and so I purchased a Pod HD500x to run direct. I will also be running a Line 6 L2T for a floor monitor for some minimal air movement when I have one IEM pulled out on certain songs. I've researched all Pod Hd500x videos, and yours by far have peaked my ears! Wow! The tones you are getting are so similar to what I play live with my tube amps, that I am going to do my best to build these patches as you laid them out. I posted on your other videos also, but if you have a Patch List on CustomTone on line 6, I guarantee they will rake in some serious downloads and reviews! Great work and encouragement for those of us biting the bullet and going direct. Cheers and blessings to you.

I never did ever care for multi effect pedals or boards... they always sounded dry, and lifeless, even running into a quality tube amp. I play a wide range of music, and constantly fighting gear to get the sound I want.... and limited, because your stuck with the range your equipment can deliver. I have spent a fortune in guitars, amps, and effects searching for what I want to hear. After hearing this video I kept finding more and more of what I was looking for. So I went out on a limb, traded in my pedals for one of these... all I can say is, dam wish I had one of these 30 years ago.... I would have saved so much money. Even running into a powered pa speaker gives me the sounds I want with amazing results. I am very satisfied with this product. If you can't find the sound you are searching for, or play a lot of different styles of music... save some money by buying one of these.

Although those patches are really good, I am glad to find you and look at your video which is impeccably done by the way and VERY informative. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Hi & thanks for the video! Many people have said that this unit is good for recording, but not live (i.e. not with amp) - especially as compared with the BOSS GT100. Do you think there's any credibility to this claim?

I would recommend that you watch Part 5 and 6 in the series. I plugged the Pod into front end of a tube amp and then used the 4 cable method into a solid state amp. You can hear the results for yourself. I was pretty happy with the tones.

Basically, as I play with a band, my main need is usage in pedal-boarding (change of effects/settings) compared to all capablities in all other ranges. What would you Guys say as recommendation? Sorry if question is simplified and stupid, but...

Its a very difficult decision to make. I have no idea if there is going to be a replacement for the HD500X. What I can say is that the POD as it stands now is still a very capable modeler. If you include the model packs you'll have a massive amount of choices with regard to amps and effects. You could probably pick up an HD500X for a decent price too.

My big problem with Amp modellers is even though the sound being relayed to the DAW is a very faithful representation of the amp and speaker cab combo and that's the recorded sound it's very hard to get the same vibe through Studio monitors or headphones. I have very good Genelec nearfield monitors but they don't have the same bass extension my 2x12 cab has. I used to use Mission sm6A monitors which had close to 10' woofers that were better and I even used to monitor through Mackie srm350s which definitely did have the low end you need to feel a patch. I find it more inspiring to play through my Marshall Origin 20 and my 2X12 with a power soak on it so I can turn the valves up a bit without deafening my neighbours. Valve amp simulation is great but the monitoring situation needs addressing. I don't even know if there is a solution. Maybe headphones and Subsonic air projectors???? As a guitarist it's good to hear and feel the air moving... Luv and Peace.
