I’ve had this issue with onX with my stock vortex harness without any magnets. Wonder if this is just an issue with onX more so then a magnetic harness issue.

I've personally never had an issue with onX up until I got the mag bino harness.

O have had similar problems with onx as well. It does act funny sometimes. Luckily I was on some public that I was familiar with

I had this same issue 3 years ago elk hunting and coming out in the dark. Luckily my partner didn’t have magnets. No one should give you a hard time regarding this, even the topo and compass guys. A magnet will throw your compass off the same as it will your phone. I have run no magnets since and have had zero issues. Aron Snyder from Kifaru says the same thing. He helped marsupial develop their “non mag” harness and Kifaru’s new harness is mag free as well. Good on you for brining this up. You could save someone from having a real bad day if it happened to them.

We can all learn to read a topographical map. Take your phone navigator and your topo map! You'll notice a navigational problem so much sooner, unless your are traveling by night

Did you try turning on true north on your phone

Yes. I even removed my phone case, which has a plate for the painted arrow mag pro mount.

Might electronic navigation with a phone be less accurate than a hand-held, simple compass? I know orienteering with a compass and topographical map, so I will perform another experiment and see if we all have another solution - or not.

Has anyone had any problems with The magnetic Cases and Image Stabilizer Binoculars which are electronic (AA battery operated)?

I just use a mirror compass, and treat OnX like a paper map. Been running that way for awhile, no issues. Mirror compass can also conceivably be used as a signal mirror, an aid to slather on the war paint if your into that, and as a backup, cause electronics fail. Say if you dropped your phone into something stupid one morning, or it literally falls onto the ground when you thought you put it in your pocket. I've done that. It was amazing I found my phone later.

The odd thing is though I have HuntStand and did not have this issue? It worked fine but OnX was off…

Thank you. I'll try HuntStand, but I've tested OnX, Spartan Forge, and HuntWise, and they are all off when I wear the magnets. If I run my Kifaru bino harness, I don't have any issues.

I had e a buddy who uses the same harness with OnX and hasn't had any issues. I'm starting to wonder if the cell phone service provider matters. As you can see, it's a rabbit hole of possibilities.

I have their fishing pack chest rig I use for scouting. I removed the magnets to avoid problems like this.

Don’t use a phone to “navigate” your location is triangulated by cell towers. Invest in an actual GPS like a garmin which is specifically for that purpose. Your location will be great at your house, but not so great as you get further away from civilization.

I had a GPS at one point and sold it. The phones have become extremely reliable, but I get your point.

I have one of their Bino packs and had some issues in a snow storm last firearm season on a good size chunck of public. Got all turned around and luckily was able to use my tracks, that were filling up fast to get back. I use a regular hand held compass. But I love the pack so much it’s so nice.

It's a trade-off. I do like their bino harness, but I won't run one in hunting season.

Are you keeping your phone in that front pouch on the harness or is this just occurring with you holding the phone?

I store my phone in my pocket, and it occurs no matter if I hold my phone close, fully extended out, or to the left or right. I tested it recently for a week, and it seems worse at night, but my direction indicator is always off. As soon as I switch to my Kifaru non-magnetic, I don't have any issues. Being that the majority of my hunting is on public, I don't trust it.

Marsupial has a no magnet harness. Small and medium size. For some reason they wont make a large. If they did I’d buy the harness and most of the accessories.

I've tested the new No-mag, and if you like having a bulk bino harness, it's a good option. I personally prefer a bino harness with a slim profile and not a lot of bulk.

@@MichiganAmBushOutdoors I haven’t seen it in person. The marsupial harness just looks so tailored and nice. I want one but I don’t want to run into issues with the magnets. Way I see it, it can’t be anymore bulky than my old AGC harness.

@drewolm They did a great job on the lid, and it has the same quality you would expect from Marsupial. The older no-mag isn't as bulky.
