Beautiful animals, congrats! Happy to see a fellow Minnesotan chasing Marten/Fisher. Also just an FYI the 9am wait on opening day trapping does not apply to Marten, Fisher, or Bobcat.

Awesome stuff. I’m a teacher in BC and take students out to my trapline 5 days a week. I also have a channel showing our adventures 😁. I just subscribed to your channel.

That is so awesome, we need more people educated and brought into these experiences to help create a better understanding of what we do and why we do this. It isn't just for the taking of these specific animals but the process of trying to help their populations be healthy and to help their food sources have a healthy and sustaining cycle.

@@Hawg_Collar_Outdoors absolutely. We talk about this with students and adults daily. However KZbin is full of uneducated commenters that thick otherwise 😂. I just delete and block 😁

New sub here . Just a note that those bows are not pine but look like spruce bows .

Thank you for the support. You are correct in the fact that most of what I use are spruce boughs, I have used the word "pine" as a generalization for all coniferous boughs I use in my sets. We have an abundance of multiple species in the spruce, pine, and fir families in my location, yet most common in my set locations are black spruce. I like the balsam fir the most for these sets as the needles are not sharp, and they lay flat, making a thicker covering for the bait with fewer branches needed.

Marten prices went up 20% here in BC with our buyer.

That is great. It all adds up to keep the wheels spinning. We are only allowed 2 animals total, either combined or otherwise, so it doesn't make much if marten and fisher are all I target. But I do this because I enjoy the crap out of it, not for the money.

They buying fur now?
@Hawg_Collar_Outdoors11 ай бұрын
Market is still down, but fur that is moving well throughout early 2023 has been beaver, otter, fisher, marten, fox of all varieties, wolves, badger, skunk, ermine, wolverine and bear. They have not been selling at great prices but a few select pelts have been fetching over 800 dollars for timber wolves and 70 dollars for marten and fisher, bears at around 300 and fox in the 60 dollar range. Some coyotes over 60 but sales were less than 25% of stock. Check the link here for the may 2023 sales report for a better look. www.furharvesters.com/results/2023/May/may23us.pdf There is no sales update for 2024 as of yet, but the next auction is in April.

@@Hawg_Collar_Outdoors interesting I'm in Yakutat Alaska there fur but fuel is 7.20 for gas 😮

That is crazy, I'm in the Virginia minnesota area on what they refer to as the iron range and gas is 3.69 and diesel is 3.89 at the moment. Makes it hard to justify going out anymore.
