Marvellous tutorial. I really enjoyed learning all this. Never knew there was a thickness tool or that It was possible to loft a design this way. Loads to play around with. Please keep up the tutorials because they are the best I have seen for FreeCad. I have been struggling to make sense of the program until now.

Great tutorial as always. I do have a suggestion for a later topic. I have some OpenBeam 15x15mm aluminum extrusion, but I guess the same is true for standard 20x20mm profiles. It looks like there is a free STEP file that imports and it look like the draft workbench has a scale tool that allows scaling a clone of the beam. I was able to arrange some beam together via the A2plus workbench. I'm not even sure if this is the right procedure, but it worked. Anyway, a little howto on how to design with aluminum extrusion in FreeCAD, like make brackets and add bolts and nuts etc pp...

I just found this tutorial, and followed it through with no difficulty, but using a simple octagon top and bottom, to created a tapered octagonal flower pot.... When I tried to twist it, any angle more than 22.5 degrees caused the twist to reverse direction, and become (45 deg. minus my specified angle).... In other words, if I twisted the top 15 degrees, it worked fine.... If I twisted it 30 degrees, it became the opposite twist of only 15 degrees.... If I twisted the top by 45 degrees, it reverted to the original untwisted shape.... I wanted that 45 degrees of twist, so that the pot twisted one flat in its height.... HELP !!!!

This is very cool. I'm looking to build an item that has a series of columns around a perimeter where the columns would spiral straight up vertically. Not sure if that make sense. Would this method work for something like what I'm trying to do?

Hi Larry, I don't see why that wouldn't work!

@@MarthamEngineering Hello. I was able to get one column to spiral/twist up using your method. But when I created a sketch with ten columns (10 mm circles) around a 50 mm perimeter on each plane and try to loft them across three planes I get an error about not the same number of wire frames.

I am having same issue. Once triangle is drawn I and video have 6 degrees. When video adds circle it goes to 7 degress. When I add circle I get 9 degrees. Cannot see why I am getting the additional 2 degrees.
@MarthamEngineering4 жыл бұрын
Try dragging the sketch elements using the left mouse button. If any move or change size they need further constraints.
@mickj61994 жыл бұрын
@@MarthamEngineering Thanks for prompt reply, but they all move. I have only drawn the circle not linked them yet. After drawing triangle I get 6 degrees as do you. By just drawing the circle I get an additional 3 degrees, but you only get 1 degree. So at 1.16 on video you have 7 degrees, whilst I have 9 degrees. I can do link triangle to circle and make sides equal etc. but the additional 2 degrees remain compared to yours. If I link them they all move as one unit. After setting diameter I still have 2 degrees.
@mickj61994 жыл бұрын
Additionally I am on V0.18. When you add circle I note you get Constraint 4, whilst I don't.
@that1dude19994 жыл бұрын
So I’ve had some help in other forums. My problem was that the center of my circle was not anchored to the center of the sketch. In the video he has the “snap-to” feature enabled so his automatically constrained to the center. To fix this I had to select both the center point of the circle and the center point of the sketch and add a constraint.

I haven't been spending that much time learning FreeCAD, but compared to Shapr3D and Fusion360, it's pretty unbearable. It looks like it's going to be several more years before it becomes a good alternative. But I'm going to keep going with the tutorials and see if it becomes better.
