Prune cake! Seriously. I have lost my long gone Dad's recipe for his prune cake. It was rich and smelled of cloves. He would make them for all the neighbors around Christmas. It was like a fruit cake - dense and dark.

I remember that in my Home Ec Class in Junior High School, we actually learned to make REAL Danish pastry. Home Ec is a thing of the past in most schools.
@annamccormack41013 жыл бұрын
Is it really a thing of the past in America? I live in Ireland and in my all-girls school we had massively popular home Ec classes (I graduated 2019). It’s so surprising to me that it’s gone out of fashion in other countries
@theresaiwright70853 жыл бұрын
@@annamccormack4101 A lot of schools in the united states don't have it anymore. It's because school funding has been cut drastically. Classes like home ec, art, music, wood shop, metal shop have been dropped.
@joyherting37053 жыл бұрын
It is sad that they don't have Home Ec anymore. They didn't even have it when I was in school. I taught my daughter an niece how to cook an bake starting young. Cooking, sewing... no one knows how to do any of it. I started cooking an baking young, even kids I babysat wanted to learn. I learned how to sew at the library couple years ago to make something doe my daughter, then I made a bunch to share.

I wish they had these classes for adults 🤓 I’d love to learn some new things and refresh some old stuff. I honestly wish I was a better homemaker. I know it’s not politically correct these days to actually want to be better at homemaking, lol, but I was such a tomboy growing up, with zero patience for anything home related, so my poor mom, tried her best to teach me, lol 😂 but eventually she gave up. However these days I’d love to learn some household/home making stuff, - it looks so enjoyable to be able to serve homemade food and pastries 🥮☺️ 🤓

Could you please do a second episode with more Danish. The requested flavors are the prune Danish, Apple Danish, Cherry Danish or turn overs, bear claws and another big family Danish, maybe chocolate. Please! I love to bake and my daughter loves to bake with me. Then we love to share them with family and friends we even share them with her teachers. If you need to make it while it's not so hot sounds like it would be a good idea to do multiple batches of dough and have them in the freezer so if you want some when it's a warmer day you can still get to make them. If they're all squares then you can even cut them an do a couple stacks of the squares. or maybe even premade all ahead except for the baking for when someone just stopped by

In Scandinavia we would never dream of serving these for breakfast. They are a special treat that we might have once in a while. I’ve worked at hotels in other European countries and I know that pastries and danishes are part of the continental breakfast many places, which I always found really odd. They are delicious, but much too sweet for breakfast ☺️

I will be baking my own Danishes. I am of Danish heritage and VERY few Danish bakeries here (Vancouver Canada). I went to one yesterday. I paid $3.50 per individual 3" Danish. $8 for a loaf of Danish Rye Bread. Yes, sadly Home Ec classes are a thing of the past here. But I am teaching my 5 year old granddaughter and 3 year old grandson. He mainly wants to eat the dough. LOL.

ive been watching documentaries on youtube about other countries. like italy, Sicily, rome, india. and this lady had lived without a refrigerator and a stove. i had thought about trying to turn off the refrigerator to save on electricity. most people go to big farmers markets still over there. and this lady did. and was able to do without a frige. i know lots of people have to do without modern conveniences. im still working on getting the frigerator turned off. and dairy products are my hard thing to get rid of. cheese, butter, sour cream. i did go without buying butter for a couple of months though and ive been using coconut oil instead of butter sometimes. and coconut milk, soy, and almond milk in cans and cartons that are shelf stable. and powdered milk. ive also been watching videos on the dairy cows and how hard it is on them and the farmers. sometimes they get debris in their hooves and the hoof doctor has to come and visit the cows and trim their hooves cause they need to be able to wear their hooves down and the land is too soft and they stand for long periods of time to get milked. and they give them lots of water so they will produce a lot of milk. and while standing and walking around their hooves hurt if they get something lodged in the hoof. its awful what they have to go through. im praying about it.

First time I watch this lady, although, I've heard of her, she's like lamerican icon. I'm struck by the fact that she ain't smiling a lot. lamericans tend to grin and smile and laugh way too much, it's disturbing. Granted, I'm a Slav, we're raised to only laugh or smile if we have a reason. If you laugh for no reason, you must be crazy, and if you smile for no reason, you must be dimwit. So, dial it down. This is the right amount of smiling for me. Unless she's maybe Canadian. It' impossible to tell Canadians from lamericans, other than that they sometimes smile less... Okay, checked it, she's Polish. She's a sister Slav
