The actor who plays the bad guy (Chattapong Pantana-Angkull) is actually known be such a nice person IRL. Very humble and generous.

There's a fight scene from Ong Bak 2 where Tony Jaa switches between different fight scenes when fighting multiple foes and it is phenomenal... Mesmerizing even.

I think it's herb called "ว่าน" ( Not sure in English. There are some types that are edible.) Thai people use this herb to make talisman. It is believed to make you invulnerable, tough, can't be damaged. In Muay Thai, especially in the past (not sure about nowadays. ) they usually put this in Mongkol มงคล ( the fabric wrapped around the boxer's head) or Prajioud ประเจียด (the two fabrics wrapped around boxer's upper arms in Muay Thai) But some people put this in the water and drink it. But in this scene he put it in the mouth.

To elaborate this, this piece of herb was hold in the roll of "Ta-krud". It's the small rectangular copper or other material which will be rolled and locked inside container such as plastic tube or caps on both ends and weaving with ropes (same pattern with monkol/prajiad but mostly in length for wear it on your waist) and then cast spell by monk. These Ta-krud casting to be use in many different believe like good luck charm, protection, support financial and bring fortune and yes like Noom Nim mentioned before...you can see that he flatted the roll piece of metal and put it on the back of his hand and wrapped with the rope from his waist, it's believed to make you invulnerable too.

In the Southeast Asia’s ancient time, when go to war, the low rank soldier won’t get to wear armor( they were basically topless soldier). So the Buddhist monk cast spell on this herb make them believe that when put it in your mount it create invisible shield... it’s one of those psychological warfare technic.

My favourite technique from Tony Jaa is where he goes for a low sweep kick, opponent lifts his knee to evade but Tony Jaa just keeps moving his leg so he spins it around and goes for a head kick and hits the guy! Its harder than it looks lol!

I am 99% sure that he used a strong pain blocker, before the last fight he received many injuries, including injury to both hands with the cutting side of the saw. Adrenaline does not give great advantages in such battles, but a good pain blocker does.

@L4fty There are types of poisonous herbs on the planet that block the nervous system in less than a minute, but for this you need to chew the grass and put it under your tongue, so the poison quickly enters the bloodstream and blocks the nervous system. The principle of human behavior changes and the first time you will most likely be a vegetable, but for people who know what they are doing, you can completely block the pain. I will not say the names of plants since they are life-threatening, but those who wish will always find it in Internet search engines, but I will no longer be responsible for this.

The herb is called krachai dam or black ginger, it's a medical herb common in Thailand also used for gout, diarrhea, impotence and asthma. Another traditional fighting herb is Butea Superba but that's a yellow/orange flowering bud. I saw someone say it was wan, various configurations of 8 different herbs, but those are common in China, not Thailand.

In south east asia, shamanism/supernatural energy must be involved to make the thing works. In the past people did sacret ceremonial things before going to wars. But it's a thin line between believe or not in the case of the herb efficiency (many traditional martial arts onvolve other kinds of energies). 👍
